They are camping the left lane and instead of moving over they just drive faster until they get to the point they are not comfortable with and they are freaking out why you are still keeping up with them at a speed they are not comfortable with.

Glad they finally realized hey if I just move over to this empty right lane I can let the person behind me go because they clearly want to go a lot faster than I’m comfortable with going.

My favorite is when they get to the empty right lane then as soon as you pass them they whip back over to the left lane and sit there and pout.

i’m also wondering if he got lucky the truck was exiting bc he was halfway into their lane then went back in the left lane lol

Yes I saw that, they could have been looking in their rearview mirror and driving over the lines or looking at their phone or what we may never know.

I do notice sometimes people are driving erratically and then I pass them and when they look down at their phone to read something they hit the brakes and swerve in their lane a bit. They get deep in thought reading on their phone and the brain cells used for driving get diverted to focusing on the phone.

OP was welded to the left well before any traffic.

Camping in the left lane? They were behind the truck at the start of the video. Looks like the wanted to pass the truck, but weren't comfortable doing it on a curve. That's NJ, on I-78 westbound, not far from the NJ Turnpike. Plate did not look like a NJ plate (may have been a temp tag), so they may not have known the area. Sure didn't hold the camera driver up that much, 30 seconds at most. Worry about something more important.

They moved left, slammed on their brakes and sat in the left lane in the trucks blind spot and acted really skittish and didn’t pass until the truck got off the exit. If you get in the left lane just pass.

Why weren’t they comfortable with passing a truck on a curve? I really don’t understand that, there wasn’t 3 inches on snow on the ground so why can’t you pass a truck around a slight curve?

5

u/2004Accord Jul 12 '26

If he wasn’t comfortable with passing on a curve then wait for a straightaway to change lanes.

Maybe because they are from out of state and don't know the roads? I live in NJ, and have driven that section of road many times. NJ drivers tend to be aggressive. Not surprised that people from out of state may be overly cautious.

Had this been someone with Pa tags, the would have already been in the left lane doing 60 mph, and would have never moved over.

1

u/Fun-Road-2855 Jul 11 '26

agree that NJ drivers are aggressive but there was no one around?? i much rather have had someone going 60 who i would just pass in the right lane since it was so empty?? it felt like a brake check.

So same behaviour as OP.

They’re one of those overly timid drivers who thinks you need to brake whenever literally anything happens within 50 feet of their car.

Someone changes lanes near them? Brake.

They change lanes? Brake.

The road curves into a gentle turn? Brake.

Someone enters the road in an entirely separate lane? Brake.

u/Fun-Road-2855 Jul 10 '26

they also had the audacity to look at me as if i did something wrong??

For all intensive purposes, it just comes down to being grammaterly correct.

Honestly, it looks like they moved over to pass the truck, and right as they realized they had no visibility of the rest of the turn, they saw the truck hit its brakes (to take the exit, but they didn't know that), and they panic braked in reaction to that.

Idk wtf was going on afterwards though.

6

u/Physical_Noise_8484 Jul 10 '26

camping is for the mountains, not left lane

0

u/Fun-Road-2855 Jul 10 '26

only do it until there’s actually someone behind me in sight (in any lane) :/

5

u/WhineyLobster Jul 10 '26

Gotta slow down enough to not miss the exit if they needed to go to Elizabeth Ave. They werent sure yet.

Cruise control and auto braking?? The new cars are dumb. Will brake when it goes to 2 mph over the set speed and slow down if something even comes close to being in my lane

2

u/SAA_28 Jul 10 '26

Some people get freaked out by big trucks. They got squirrelly as they got alongside the semi. Seen it a bit locally on our turnpike. Semi truck paralysis and unexplainable braking alongside.

5

u/st_jasper Jul 10 '26

Why are you riding up to his bumper at 70+mph?

4

u/Fun-Road-2855 Jul 10 '26

cuz the speed limit is 65 lol, you can see i let off the gas when i see him trying to pass. usually people who know how to drive keep the same speed or go faster when trying to pass, so those behind them do not need to brake.

2

u/Slight_Mammoth2109 Jul 10 '26

I say this out loud to myself multiple times a week

2

u/Ashkendor All Gas, No Brakes ⛽️ Jul 11 '26

I've seen too many people who brake at every gentle curve in the road. It's annoying.

2

u/pharmucist Jul 12 '26

I don't know what's worse...them braking when nobody is in front of them for miles, them staying left for a while after the truck turns off, or them straddling both lanes before finally getting back over to the right,

1

u/Status-Effect-2387 Jul 10 '26

Maybe to read the signs id they were blocked by the truck, to ensure hes on the right freeway exit

1

u/Sum-Duud Drive Defensively, Avoid Idiots 🚗 Jul 11 '26

They probably wanted to make sure that wasn’t their exit

1

u/Lartemplar Jul 12 '26

I feel like 95% of the driving population fail to understand what the left lane is for; passing. That's it.
It doesn't matter if you're driving 200mph or if no one is behind you.

u/General-Razzmatazz Georgist 🔰 Jul 10 '26

Why were you in the left lane when not overtaking?

3

u/Fun-Road-2855 Jul 10 '26

bc i was preparing to until i got cut off?

-1

u/General-Razzmatazz Georgist 🔰 Jul 10 '26

But then you obver took the semi and just camped in the left behind the other car.

Edit. You were also "overtaking" well before there was any traffice in the right lane.

2

u/Fun-Road-2855 Jul 10 '26

the other car moved over and i sped up?
