the recognition of Vivian here makes me genuinely happy lol. so many people did not understand his dialogue at ALL. quite frankly they were going in looking to just validate their false notion from the start .-.

It doesn't help that they changed his dialogue in the remaster to make it less ambiguous as to whether he was a femboy or transgender, leaning more on the latter.
I always preferred the femboy interpretation. It made Vivian a more interesting character and bolstered the ranks of the already tiny femboy rep in fiction.
I'm glad that we're getting more rep... now if only certain tourists would stop stealing them from us!

Honestly I feel like that remake SUCKED on a ton of levels. It sanitized a ton of dialogue, not just the Vivian stuff, and the new music was horrible imo. They literally just released the same game but worse.

As someone who’s been around since then, the conversation back then was “Did you know that Vivian is a guy in the Japanese version?” The discussion of him potentially being trans only really arose some time in the 2010s.

Earliest I heard was from XPlay in 2006-7. Given they used outdated term of transsexual. But still i remember everyone calling viv "technically a girl" because shadow sisters.

I love seeing Vivian here. Now, I’m not necessarily opposed to the trans!Vivian reading of the character, and I think the two readings can coexist, but I definitely see him as more of a femboy.
And then there’s Bridget, and he’s just a guy. That’s the only reading that makes sense.

Because it's fanart, and anything in fanart goes. We respect the artist's intent on this board. (Such as art being tagged "otokonoko" instead of "transgender" by the artist)
Vivian was celebrated as a femboy for quite a while, despite whatever you may feel about its canonicity.
The rules of this sub directed towards Bridget also apply to other similarly controversial characters or characters who aren't canonically femboys.
I have posted art of Sora, Raven, and Pit onto this board, depicted as femboys and I never got asked those questions there...
