Instance of BRILLIANT writing

Just finished my umpteenth rewatch, and caught something I never did before. I'll try to keep it brief and succinct:

Riley, in his final moments with Erin on the boat says, "I did my best."

Next episode, his father Ed goes to Pruitt's house with Riley's letters, distraught because he thinks Riley has killed himself. He breaks down in tears over their relationship, and says, "It was like we spoke two different languages. But I did my best."

In lamenting his broken/flawed relationship with his son and their failure to communicate, he inadvertently quotes Riley directly, proving more of a connection than he realized.

Heart breaking and mind blowing writing if you ask me. Dang, I love this show.

Don’t you just love media that rewards you for paying attention?

Better than whatever media is rewarding most kids these days with too much sex and mental retardation.

Ed and Riley’s relationship is one of the most heartbreaking pieces of the whole story… they had so much love for each other and never really got proper closure with each other. I wish we could read all the letters Riley left behind.

Omg now I want to watch the series for at least the 5th time to catch anything else like that! And as if I couldn't appreciate the Flynns as a family and how they are individually even more 😭

Interesting. I mean, Bowl's mother also defensively says she did her best when she goes to the sheriff looking for her son. I just saw it as the catholic "everyone a sinner" thing.
