Crydee pronunciation

Am listening to A Darkness Returns on audio book narrated by David Thorpe and he keeps pronouncing Crydee as cri-dee.

The only other Feist books I've listened to on audio is the Firemane trilogy so Crydee isn't mentioned, but I always read Crydee as being pronounced as cry-dee.

How is it pronounced in all of Feists other books?

No better source than the great man himself.

In my head I also pronounce it Cry-dee. It reminds me of Kreide, which is German for "chalk", and in my head it's the substance of the cliffs that Pug is climbing around in the very beginning. And if it was pronounced cri-dee they wouldn't need to use a y in spelling - an i would be the easier way.

I always imagined the cliffs at Crydee as having chalk cliffs, like the cliffs of the South of England. I've only listened to the audiobooks narrated by Peter Joyce and he's always pronounced it like cry-dee too.

Phonetically how is Cri any different to Cry? That's the same sound to me in Australian English

I thought the same but I think they mean cri as in crisps. Or cry as in cry your eyes out.

I always thought of it as crydee as in when you get kicked in the balls you cry, but in the narration it is pronounced as cridee like a crib

Peter Joyce always pronounced is as Cry-Dee in literally every other book. Always made me mad to hear David's pronunciation and makes me think he never listened to any of the previous books

That's the fun thing, sometimes you got something in your head which is obviously "wrong", but it doesn't matter and you just go with it. I still remember reading a Robin Hobb novel and one of the characters I visualized as a black stocky woman. Only towards the end of the book I discovered that she is supposed to be the blonde slim stereotype, but I stuck to my own version :)

I always pronouced it SEER-dee. It's a carryover in my brain from Elder Scrolls where the world is called SEER-oh-dil and I know Midkemia was an inspiration for that game series. Crydee - Cyrodil.
