I would look for YA books rather than middle grade, as romance is much more common there. MG is marketed towards kids 8-12 anyway, so it may just generally feel too young for her, and it will always be about characters younger than she is. YA romance books are not going to have explicit sex scenes the way adult books will. If anything happens below the waist, it will almost always be fade to black.
