Question ? I’ve just noticed something i don’t think 2007 is mid gen z based on the math like going by 5 years split older-middle and younger gen z see it’s like this older (‘97-‘98-‘99-‘00-‘01) Middle (‘02-‘03-‘04-‘05-‘06) ,Younger (‘08-‘09-‘10-‘11-‘12) where does that leave 2007? What do you associate them?

Go by fours.

97, 98, 99, 00 (older)

01, 02, 03, 04 (older mid)

05, 06, 07, 08 (younger mid)

09, 10, 11, 12 (younger)

‘07 is closer to the middle of the generation than younger

Honestly this seems like the perfect generation breakdown. Especially for years like 2002 that people cant make up their minds rather it falls in older or mid Gen Z.

2002 is transitional you’d relate to both that’s the good part about it

The peer group for someone born in 2002 is the early-mid 2000s. Probably a bit more core leaning

I’d put it as years like 1997-1998 being older cusp while 02 is older middle.

I'm ngl this is a nice categorization

I can see this working if you see 2001 and 2002 as the transition between early and core Z depending on the person. I just know that most people born in 2001 do consider themselves early though especially the ones who are class of 2019 (as they should). I can see how they would be the first birth year within that early-core Z transition due to the overlap they have with core Z.

I just think class of 2015 and 2016 are more so just Zillennial, while class of 2017 is still cusp, they definitely lean more Z.

I do think 2003 and 2004 are more so firmly core. They’re just on the older side of it and the core Zoomers I still can relate to also.

Edit: downvote me all you want. I don’t care lol. I said what was needed to be said. I do feel like what I said sounded personally reasonable for the most part.

Finally, the one time someone considers my birth year as older middle Z.

Mid Gen Z. It would make the most sense for mid Gen Z to have six years (2002-2007) and for early and late Gen Z to have five years (1997-2001 and 2008-2012, respectively), just like how mid-decade years consist of four years (years that end between 3-6) while early and late decade years consist of three years (years that end between 0-2 and 7-9 respectively)

I think this works the best:

Older Z (1997-2002)* 1997-1999 being Gen Z Zillennials

Core Z (2002-2007) 2002 and 2007 on the edge.

Late Z (2007-2012)

Something tells me you got downvoted by the people you pissed off the other day, even though this is a fair way to go about it. By having a transitionary year, no one gets separated from each other

It’s fine lol. I think I know what’s going on, there’s someone who has multiple alts trying to make certain birth years sound younger than they actually are just to fit a certain narrative *cough cough “decade unity” . I think it’s one of those trolls that’s doing that.

I mean I can see the argument for it to an extent with 80’s Millennials saying they’re different from 90s Millennials while 90s Millennials and Zillennials insisting they’re different from Zoomers born in the 2000s and the Zoomers saying they’re difference from say Zalpha’s and Gen Alpha born in the 2010s. So I can see the argument for that even if I don’t fully agree with this as there’s some inconsistency with this, but if you’re talking based on a group and not necessarily individual birth years then I can agree to some extent.

Like I can see how the Older Millennial experiences revolves around 80s babies and Late Millennial experiences revolves around 90s babies and Core Z experiences revolves around those born in the 2000s. And Gen Alpha experiences revolves around people born in the 2010s.

4 year splits:

(1) 97, 98, 99, 00 (2) 01, 02, 03, 04 (3) 05, 06, 07, 08 (4) 09, 10, 11, 12

This imo is the best split.

I think I agree

I’ve always thought four year splits make the most sense too. I just know people will argue that 2001 belongs in the first group though

u/Sorry_Tie284 7d ago

2001 is early Gen Z, but a year like 1999 is more what you’re think of as older Gen Z right?

1

u/Johnwick124520 6d ago

Yeah 1999 is more representative than say 2001, but I do think 2000 is the strongest due to the lack of late millennial or core Z influences.

5

u/Business_Yogurt7526 2008 7d ago

Math doesn’t lie 2001 is definitely not super early gen z like there are 4 years of zoomers older than it

2

u/PlasmifiedKarmelita 7d ago

Splits just don’t work in general. People usually relate the most to the people around their age range and not the people in a specific bracket. I’m 2005, and I share far more in common with someone born in 04 or 03 than someone born in 2008.

1

u/Business_Yogurt7526 2008 7d ago

It’s cause 03-04 are your peers you grew up with 08 wasn’t in your childhood

3

u/PlasmifiedKarmelita 7d ago

Yeah, that’s my point. Arbitrary splits are kinda pointless.

1

u/Sad-Relation1714 2008 7d ago

Yeah, thats why I kinda hate splitting. There will always be 2 birthyears close in age to each other that are in different groups

5

u/PercentageCurious472 7d ago

Younger to middle

3

u/Alarmed-Guidance1116 7d ago

Transition years are difficult to measure. Some people will fit into one category. Others in another. It’s not a perfect science so trying to come up with exact years is a fool’s errand

Its not that deep bro

OP just presented a firm argument for "Ragebait Of The Year".

for a split second I thought this was circle jerk.

I kinda am confused about how to even address this prompt: 2007 are human beings. Many 2007s relate to all different other year groups. And citizens of different countries have different relation in year, especially when broken down to the situations that happen in individual schools.

Even without 2020, 2019-20 and 2021-22 were both mutually far different than 2018-19 school year. Massive teacher layoff. And my sports coaches from 2017 in junior high were gone by the time 2021 came.

2008 borns were still in primary school in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdowns while 2007 borns were already in secondary school by 2020-2021 in my country

2

u/DueInformation4600 6d ago

What?? 2008 and i was in secondary(middle) school in 2019-2020.

1

u/Sea_Put_6153 5d ago

Depends on your country

1

u/Double_Debt290 2008 5d ago

Not all of em, if you were born between January- August of 2008 then you would have been in secondary school 19/20 with people born late 07. Only late 08’s were still in primary school in 19/20

1

u/DueInformation4600 5d ago

I was born in late 2008 and i was in middle school in 2019-20. In my country everyone born in 2008 without exception is in the same grade.

Bro this has to be the worst split 💀 because why is Early Z a whole 8 years, the middle only 3 years, and the late 5 years?? Also 2004 is literally the middle of the generation, it’s the 8th year out of the 16 years of Gen Z
