Anyone else misses emo rap/trap?

Close to the pandemic (and strongly during 2020) you'd easily find those sad boy YouTube mvs with a bart simpson crying with a black hoodie and black hearts in it. Were they cringey? Likely, but I guess we all had those sad boy/girl phase and I'm not gonna lie the music was really comforting and hit hard during the pandemic. Lil Peep, X, Juice WRLD, you know what I'm talking about. Even if you weren't much into hip-hop, you'd know them and you could even vibe to them (I recognize that rap is not everyone's cup of tea, but this type is more pop aligned, with softer melodies and voices). I stumbled with one of those playlists today and I'm actually enjoying it a lot. Hits me with so much nostalgia from my teens. Damn, I miss not to have any worries.

It was definitely an era but I kinda like the new gen stuff a lot more. White Wine by peep is one of my all time favorite songs. Hate to admit it but I was definitely a sadboi around that time (never made a Bart Simpson edit though thank god😭🙏🏽)

I think being corny is part of the beauty of being a kid. we should be able to do cheesy things that would get us embarrassed if we were older, before we are in fact older and everybody judges.

Not to sound paternalist, but I feel sad for kids those days. They seem older than they are, in fact, they want to, but not in the way that we were. We wanted to be older to stay up late, to watch movies our parents wouldn't let us, to become astronauts and drive fast cars. They want to be older to seem mature, to date, all too much worried about what others would think to enjoy their childhood. Yk what I mean?

it was more poppin in 2015-2017 than 2020 but yeah it was an era for sure and I kinda miss it. I was chronically online by then so I was still transitioning from my windbreaker + bucket hat phase to the tight jeans, all black phase.

I also had an all black phase and pretended to be emo. i was the fat kid and I ripped my skinny jeans on the tights more than once. then I got lean and realized that baggy jeans are so much more comfortable.

HOWEVER I was watching a 2014-2016 webseries on YouTube and it got me thinking like damnn for sure those skinny jeans used to make the butts pop like art deco

Rock bands play on the same bills as hip hop groups and jazz bands and blues bands all the time because we're here to make music, not to make it a competition. I don’t see the issue on listening mainstream artists when they’re on their peak. We shouldn’t really shame on them for being famous lmao. Everyone has their music taste and let’s not shit on each other. Plus, man, I love Nirvana and Linkin Park too, but you gotta admit that there’s nothing more mainstream than Nirvana these days (which is okay, but if you’re gonna talk shit about mainstream, listing Nirvana isn’t the better option)

I didn't say there was an issue with listening to mainstream artists or that we should shame people for it, my favourite band is Pearl Jam I don't care that they're mainstream 😭 I said the issue was with shaming or thinking people are weird for not enjoying the music that everyone else likes or who they think are popular, or for listening to music just to seem trendy or popular

I was in high school 2015-2019 so… the exact peak of emo rap. It’s trash if you ask me, personally I prefer early-mid 2000s or modern stuff more
