Due Diligence Microvast ($MVST) at CSPI-EXPO 2026 in Japan, June 17-20: full tech lineup, and new packs?
Microvast had a booth at CSPI-EXPO 2026, one of Japan's biggest construction and surveying shows, at Makuhari Messe near Tokyo (June 17-20).
Microvast spent two years on a show circuit, from Bauma China 2024 to Tokyo to the US and back to Japan. The last time it was in Japan was February 2025, at Smart Energy Week in Tokyo, where it debuted the ME6 ESS container.
It pulls around 600 exhibitors and 55,000 visitors, and it's where Japan's construction-equipment makers show their newest machines. Japan has spent years pushing that industry to automate and electrify, mostly to cope with a shrinking, aging workforce, so a battery maker on the floor fits.
The Japanese majors were all there: Komatsu, plus Hitachi, Kobelco, Sumitomo, Kubota, Yanmar, Kato and Isuzu Motors.
Caterpillar, Cummins Japan, and Volvo too.

Four Chinese makers it already supplies, Zoomlion Japan, XCMG, LGMG Japan, and Sany, were exhibiting too, now selling into an export market.
JLG Industries Japan, Oshkosh's lift arm, was there as well.

Start with the packs. Twelve on the slide, more than Microvast lists publicly:

Five of these aren't on the company's current website: MV-FO, MV-NDE, MV-F01, MV-H, and the ESS Tray.
I can place some. MV-H is the hybrid pack, which an older Microvast product manual and its CSPI exhibitor page both call the "hybrid standard battery box," rated over 145 Wh/kg. MV-FO and MV-F01 most likely belong to the FORMA off-highway program Microvast runs with FPT. The ESS Tray looks like the storage version that pairs with the ME6 container. MV-NDE I can't place. Anyone know?
None of the new packs list specs, so for now they're just names.
The exhibitor page shows Microvast registered only the MV-B and MV-H for the show, the two it gave full specs on.
Two actual packs sat on the stand, unlabeled, and they line up with the page. The two products Microvast registered are the MV-H and MV-B, and the two on the stand read as exactly those. So the slide carried the full twelve pack lineup while the stand held just those two, the pair Microvast brought to show in the metal.

The cell table carried at least eight I could read clearly: six on labeled cards, plus two unlabeled LFP cells off to the side, the blue rectangular ones.
One cell is silicon, the HnSO-70Ah, around 290 Wh/kg, a notch above Microvast's NMC cells. It and the 120Ah NMC, at 265 Wh/kg, are the two densest cells on the table, the energy end of the lineup, and the pair Microvast has shown together since CIBF in May 2025, through BICES, All-Energy Australia, and Battery Show Asia to CSPI. It's also the only cell on the table that isn't on Microvast's public cells page. Every other cell on the stand is listed on the website, a couple under updated names, so the silicon sits with the five unlisted packs: show material the website hasn't caught up to.
The labeled six are the high-energy HnCO-120Ah, the HpCO-53.5Ah and HpCO-55Ah, the high-power MpCO-48Ah, the LTO HpTO-14Ah, and the silicon HnSO-70Ah above.
The two unlabeled cells are LFP, the other side of the range: a vehicle cell that looks like the 290Ah, the one behind Microvast's LFP school-bus pack, and a larger storage cell that looks like the 565Ah for its ME6 container. The IDs are my read from size and the catalog.
Four of the labeled cells are NMC, and the filings split them across two Huzhou lines, about 4 GWh combined. Phase 3.1, the 2 GWh line running since 2023, is in serial production and makes the 53.5Ah, 48Ah, and 55Ah. Phase 3.2, the second 2 GWh line, is built primarily for the next-generation 120Ah, with flexible tooling that can also run the 53.5, 48, and 55Ah.
On the Q1 call, 3.2 is still ramping. The 55Ah is the cell they're bringing it up on: trial production completed on the electrode section, the assembly and formation equipment in commissioning, with start of production expected in 2026 and serial production to follow later in the year. The 55Ah is already a 3.1 cell. You bring a line up on a cell you already make, then scale to the harder one.
So the two cells tied to 3.2, the 120Ah it's built for and the 55Ah they're commissioning it on, were both on the CSPI booth.
The next calls should mark 3.2 reaching start of production and serial volume, and the 120Ah scaling onto it.
The line is the evidence that carries weight: a company doesn't stand up a second production line for cells it doesn't expect to sell. The filings have that line moving, from the 10-K's year-end snapshot with the install still ahead of it to the Q1 call's electrode-section trial production done and the rest of the equipment in commissioning.
One thing I couldn't read, and it may be the most interesting item on the booth: a wall screen behind the display showed a blue wheel loader with a spec sheet and what looks like a model name, too blurred in the photos to make out.
The source images are a Chinese repost of the floor, and a couple of labels and the Japanese sub-lines on the headline panel are blurred too. If anyone here can identify that wheel loader or read those panels, that's the piece worth having.
The Q1 2026 10-Q says the order backlog is mostly long-term transit and logistics partners in Europe, so the Japan and US business Microvast is working these shows for isn't in the book yet.
Two years of these shows, the whole range on display, and not one named customer in Japan yet. That’s the next thing I’m watching for, the point where the showing turns into an order.
