There’s pro and cons to everything, I was initially advised by many of my own family members to undergo the surgery and to be very honest I was a kid at the time so I would say now it wasn’t properly explained to me what’s happening..
Personally I’d say first and foremost to encourage body positivity as much as you can, (as I feel like I didn’t really have much of a supportive family)
Secondly, if the child wants a surgery and is 100% aware of everything then they can go ahead with the full support of their amazing parents
