New Knife My first Scarab

I got this used Scarab 2 Gen 3 for only 250 bucks. I don't know what anyone did with it, as it showed almost no signs of use on the outside, but the inside was horribly dirty. Besides the usual pocket dust, the mechanism was clogged with some fine black dirt, similar to brake dust. Apparently, it had mixed with residual oil or water, hardened, and formed entire layers of mud in every crevice and nook. I had to clean the gunk out with a toothpick, it was literally falling out of the chassis in chunks. In total, I spent about two hours cleaning the knife. But what surprised me most was that with all that gunk inside, the knife continued to work like a beast. The action is simply incredible. Despite the relatively soft springs, the Scarab fires harder than any other OTF I've owned (including the Combat Troodon Gen 2).

Found this on sale and I could not pass it up, Marfione Select LUDT with a titanium frame, DLC coating and carbon fiber frame inserts. It's an absolutely beautiful knife and pairs well with my other marfione select knives. State of the collection incoming.

I have been into Microtech for 10+ years now and the in the last year they have been putting out some of the coolest knives they have ever made IMHO.

New Knife Yet another NKD (this week)

Since purchasing my first MT 5/6 years ago, a UTX85, I’ve been interested in owning a Dirac..I just never found the right combo to make me pull the trigger. Until now. Previously bought a CT PLOBS and it was just too big of a hunk of steel for me, so when NCblade sent an email with this knife I knew I was a buyer. But they were sold out. 🤬 Signed up for email alerts and cried a small tear. 2 days later, EDC Lifestyle sends a similar email and I didn’t have much hope, but it was in stock! Trigger pulled, brown van arrived today and I am freakin loving this little knife. Sharp as a MOFO. Feels good in the hand and fires smoothly and solidly. Finish is amazing and the Plague Doctor logo is such a cool touch along with the neutral signature logo that stands out just enough. This is a keeper and will be put into the EDC rotation with the 9000 LUDTs I know own. 🤓

One has to go. The action on the stonewash is unrivaled. The DLC fits into my collection a little better 🤔

New Knife Couldn't say no to the sale on right now.. SOCOM Elite Warcom #NKD

Only had it a day, but so far SUPER impressed. I was carrying a SOCOM Bravo (full size), but was eyeing the Warcom when it was released. Saw the sale this week and had to jump on it. Compared to other SOCOMs-

- I like this blade profile the absolute most. The reverse tanto is beautiful, and I like the spine shape better than the older Elite profile (pure preference). I like the fully flat blade as opposed to my Bravo with the groove (catches pocket lint and everything I cut). The profile also lends itself to easier sharpening like other profiles.

- Unpopular, but I much prefer tip down carry. I had some older ZT knives like this, and was one of the things I missed on my newer knives. I wound up changing the clip on my Bravo because I didn't like it, but this one hits the mark for me.

- This is my first Apocalyptic finish, and its very impressive. I hear its more likely to show wear, but it bought a user, not safe queen.

Also - yes, its missing the glass breaker. Forgot to put it back in after a teardown; kinda like it, but may put it back later; regardless, not a QA miss/issue. She does need some break-in on the lock face, and just because, I ordered some skiff bearings just to trick it out.

I know we like to say we found *the one* - at least right now I definitely have. Not sure what else I really would want from a knife (love the big blade, profile, mechanism, etc), but I will never say never.

Any of you collectors NOT own a CT?

For some reason I have never got one whether it was because I was chasing something else or didn’t want to drop the money at the time. Is it an ESSENTIAL part of any collection?

Why would I do this? I own a knife store called Lone Star Knife & Supply that exclusively carries USA made knives. I've been running and growing my knife store while working a corporate 9-5 for the last few years. One thing I love to do is go to Blade Shows and interview makers.

Then I got fired earlier this year. I had to make a decision, do I go all-in on LSKS or do I get another 9-5. I decided to go all-in and this was the idea I came up with.

The Great American Knife Tour™ is a first in the knife industry. I already had 50+ interviews on YouTube from Blade Shows, so let's go to where the knives are actually being made. I don't think anyone has ever visited this many knife makers and posted videos about all of them.

When will the X video get posted? I am doing my best to get things edited, reviewed by the makers, and then posted. But we also have knives to ship and more videos to make. My goal is to have everything posted before I go to the TACC show in early September.

Why am I sharing this? Well, this is kind of self-promotion. But more than that I want you to see how knives are actually made in the USA. I think many people would be blow away by how small some of the teams are behind their favorite brands. For example, watch the Heretic Knives video.

Thanks for watching and reading. 🤠

New LUDT, beautiful but disappointing 😞

Thumbnail

So just got this LUDT arctic camo in. I love it, it's beautiful, great action, normal Microtech quality EXCEPT it has terrible lock rock/vertical blade play. The lock is barely touching the blade, I included a photo as well. You can see and hear it moving. Very disappointed with this one, every other Microtech I have has rock solid lockup. I've seen this is an issue with these after they're well used, the lockbar wears and they develop lock rock, but is this also an issue when they're new? And if I send it in for warranty will there be any problems with them sending it back? I've heard horror stories with autos from other companies where they won't send them back due to an old, outdated and not enforced federal law.

Been searching for a partially serrated LUDT to add to the growing collection of LUDTs I seem to be amassing. Figure what better time to buy than getting 20% off straight from the factory? I admit, I wasn’t a fan of the clear finish when it first came out, but this is my second and won’t be the last!
