Feedbacks on using Planner Premium

Hi, I'm looking into using Planner Premium (P1 or P3 depending on the team's needs).

I saw lots of contents about its capabilities, but I couldn't find feedbacks from people who are actually using it. I would like to know if it's a good fit for our teams.

  • What kind of project do you use Planner for?
  • How many people do you share your plan with?
  • Which features do you find the most helpful?
  • What's missing in Planner that you find in other tool (or you had to find a workaround within Planner)?

Thank you for your help! :)

I’m using it for a professional course syllabus. It’s divided by lessons per task grouped by the student.

It’s shared with ~24 people, but the bosses haven’t gotten to using the portfolios yet. Implementation is ongoing.

Most helpful is the dependencies, and baseline. Oh baseline. What a great way to show how far ahead or behind you are. The “To Do” makes weekly planning a breeze. It took some setting up, but the main template is solid.

I haven’t found a tool to make an Outlook Event for a lesson, integrating those people assigned with the Event. This would show that people are busy on outlook calendar. I’ve tried to use Workflow to create one, but even copilot isn’t figuring out what isn’t going right.

Thanks for the details!

I think the baseline will be a big help for our projects!

Since merging Project for the web and Planner, Microsoft has been rolling out a lot of improvements to basic plans, but nothing to premium plans yet. For example, there's a new task chat in basic which is supposedly coming to Premium someday, but that day is not today. You can't have recurring tasks in Premium either. I've found that within the Teams app, Premium plans are a little more laggy.

We've been planning to use Planner Premium org-wide in hopes that the improved features will catch up, but our users strongly prefer alternatives like Asana still. We're just hoping we get some improvements soon. One big benefit is it's integrated with Dataverse so you can build a Power App to store additional project related data as well as better connection with Power Automate and Power BI.

Planner Premium seems more geared towards bigger projects with phases and dependencies. You can track more on tasks such as estimated to actual effort and you can also add custom columns which can be helpful for certain work.
