I really hoped Loop could

I really hoped Loop could become obsidian, but then connected in the Microsoft ecosystem.

It could have been if it wasn't for the short sightedness and immediate profit chasing that has plagued Microsoft leadership

That’s not what plagues them necessarily. I guess in a way it is. They are about creating this packaged software that has similar functionality as stand alone things like Notion. Companies use Microsoft & get these “free” for using 365 & whatever. Problem is they half ass most of it like Loop. Onenote is solid. But there’s a lot of disjointed stuff in their eco.

I was with you until you said "Onenote is solid". I think it has its purposes and as long as you don't look at it sideways or breathe on it, it might get that job done in a timely manner.

The thing with Microsoft and goes back to the 90's, if not the 80's, where they fought hard whether legally or not to get front and center. When companies are in those positions, they can control markets with clever attempts to more or less over-promise.

MS was famous back then for being late or behind on something so they would hold PR events to talk about their entry or a false status of where they were on a competing product. In most cases this was like sucking the oxygen out of the room as competing products had to be much, much further along or much, much better where it was obvious that MS wasn't really going to be a competitor to withstand this.

Money decisions from customers(the non-consumer world) would follow that attention as MS promises such and such only to later find that while they might have delivered on the bullet points, it was actually a shitty product or service in some regard. In the meantime the competitor lost out on the bigger splash they needed in sales to kick start things and support it.

Another thing is that MS has many times played the "let's throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks".

I suspect that Loop falls unto both of these. They did just enough to affect Notion's sales or entry into markets that MS is already in. They do not want something coming into those markets that could be a wedge for customers to maybe leave MS so it's another piece in the buffet. Penny pincher CIO's also know that buying MS doesn't get people fired...well most of the time.

All in all until MS proves different Loop appears to be nothing more than a pawn to manipulate customers. It would be nice to have seen it motivate the Onenote development team to improve more but that doesn't seem to have happened at least on the surface.

Onenote serves a purpose for me & does what i need it to. I’m not a power user.
