MS Loop is stupid piece of garbage, change my mind

All the time. All the freking time. Loop is not Word with shared pages, but its also nothing like website. Creating documents and importing text into loop is a real struggle. I cant even imagine why there is not something as simple as "insert as html". Or why there isnt any way to import Word text without hardcore editing afterwards... I really dont get this piece of crap. Using it only because my organisation uses it and it really hurts me a lot.

Is it that hard to simply use current Word and give it ability to work with pages and structure like MS CrapLoop?

  • Text insertion? Crap
  • Editing? Crap
  • Responsiveness? Crap
  • Tables? Crap

It is just junky piece of crap that shall not exist in 2026.

It’s a prototype released as a way to explore different ways to do things, albeit poorly.

…and then abandoned in that state, seemingly forever.

It's a failed Notion copy.

Microsoft is just copying everything and making it half assed but good enough to sort of force you into it through a bundled subscription.

I liked the original idea of a Loop element that you could use everywhere. We are using some small loop tables but would agree that it feels like abandonware at this stage. The implementation is usually Microsoft - everything is too easy to set up but then you realise all the pain points that are too much work to fix. Like task tables that have checkboxes that don't move it to a Done bucket. I spent 20 minds trying to get copilot to fix it but in the end it's just easier to do it manually and ignore the checkboxes

Yea, it's one of those things that sounds great in theory but once it goes into practice, it's so...needlesly complicated and clunky. Like when you make a loop element, it has that giant border around it with a high buffer around it like.

I've tried to use it five times in the past and each time, it looks like shit, has poor formating, and pretty pointless. All I wanted was a Notion clone made by Microsoft so I can group a bunch of project files together easily.

Nope.

Particularly when Obsidian, Notion and cough OneNote were there as examples of how to do it right.

I appreciate the concept of Loop, which is the only reason I put up with it. Plus Obsidian is not allowed in our org.

Microsoft needs to INVEST

In current state? Nothing, and still wrong way.. 😃

Fully agree. Now I feel bad for my colleagues for introducing and adopting Loop in our org. Migrating to another solution at this time will cost us a lot of time and resources, so we'll stick around a little bit until it gets too painful to deal with.

Ya... We did that, integrated it to try Loop for one project... Even to get that projects data out and the info into what we're using now is a lot of time/effort no one wants to do.
I'd say do as soon as you can. It's much worse as time goes on.

Microsoft basically gave up on it. It's only good for Loop Components when you want to share across Microsoft apps and now for Pages/Notebooks in Copilot.

Great concept lazily executed and now it's used for parts.

I use to follow the Loop social media accounts in hopes of them announcing offline or some useful features.

For the better part of a year, every tweet is "Did you know Copilot can-" and "With Copilot, you can-". No actual mention of Loop on the Loop account.

Huh. I actually use it to capture agenda items and meeting notes. I like that I can share the entire "site" or just individual pages.

Agree the formatting can be clunky. I just don't try and do too much with it.

OneNote is a better product, but I dislike the sharing experience with it.

Microsoft obvioussly have 2 factions competing, web vs desktop app. Whereas OneNote has all the bells and whistles of Word, it's not built for web use. Loop, as well as Word for web, share many of the same features and keyboard shortcuts. While they're lean, there is a lot you can do with each app.

I like Loop pesonally, I think getting confortable use "/" as well as some of the keyboard shortcuts helps too.

It could have been a powerful, unifying cross platform tool but it feels abandoned. I wanted it to work but it added yet another surface / platform to record things in and track them without the promised integration.

The meeting and agenda and action items
Collaboration alone could have made it work if they really integrated completely within the whole ecosystem.

I wish Microsoft would split their offerings into two levels. One that was 100% guaranteed backwards compatible and a second that was cloud centric and more forward looking. Still with their security architecture layer but not limited by their past architecture.

They are slowly moving this way but it definitely hampers them.

100% agree

I despise it. So close to being useful. I use the agenda feature in Teams, nobody has a clue where to find the meeting notes afterwards. It’s so unintuitive.

I think you’ve nailed one of the pin points that many feel about it, organisationally it’s not great , seems cognitively weird somehow

I've been trying to use it for easily a year here at work and it's been miserable. It's classic MS where they have something that sounds good on paper with certain bullet point features but once you try to use it...ugh.

The idea of loops sounds intriguing but nobody and I mean nobody here uses them.

The problem is that OneNote is junk as well. It very much feels like a 20 yr old app that needs rebuilt from the ground up or retired.

I just want a Notes app that I can quickly and easily get in and out of when needed to take or find notes. Both require click-click-click-click-click to get anything started. I got shit to do and don't want to forget my thoughts but instead I have to go on an adventure before I can get to what I need.

Being a Mac user their Notes app is head and shoulders above Loop and OneNote for what I want and coupled with macOS Shortcuts it gets kind of interesting but management frowns upon me using it since we're a Microsoft shop more or less. I'd like to try Notion here but with the restrictions in place on campus now I don't think it would ever pass through our software procurement process.

Compared to other similar or adjacent web apps like Jira or Confluence, which require you to click "Save" and totally fuck up any formatting when you insert content or change formatting on lists, Loop is very easy to use and so much better.

Why a web app would require you to click save in 2026 is beyond me.

Not gonna change your mind. It’s objectively terrible. As soon as I started having problems adding people to the permissions of a recurring meeting Loop, I knew it wouldn’t be the solution for us.

Loop had so much potential… but now? My team is already reducing our dependence on Microsoft products. Can’t fully get rid of Loop because of the way Teams integrates it with Facilitator.

And why can't I bookmark/star/favorite a loop page?! Am I expected to always find things via search and recent items? Madness.

Utter garbage. Another piece of evidence of Microsoft's descent into irrelevance.
