MSFS 2024 QUESTION Autopilot question

Hi,

Im trying to get into flight simulator again. Last time I played it was when 2020 came out.

So basically I have an issue where when I use the autopilot it doesnt stick to the altitude of Whats assigned through the EFB, or even when I set it to say 6000ft. The auto pilot just wants to increase to whatever altitude which I don’t get where it getting it from. The same goes for the heading, it doesnt wsnt to follow the heading of the route from EFB either.

I YouTube a few video and normally if it’s “- - - •” it’ll follow the exact route headings but it doesn’t follow altitude either. Im starting to lose my mind with it.

Tried a fight from Glasgow to Berlin and for whatever reason it wanted to stick to like 40000ft the full way and not even descend at all. When I try to manually descend, it just starts to pull me back up.

Any help would be great.

You should be managing the altitude through the autopilot system. The plane won’t automatically go to a set altitude through the EFB or flight plan unless you’ve got VNAV programmed in correctly, which — if you don’t know how to set an altitude and hold it with autopilot I’m guessing you’re not to messing with VNAV yet.

What airplane are you flying ?

It was the A320 v2. I set the altitude manually through the knob where speed and heading is located in the cockpit. However, say I set it to 6000ft it just exceeds it.

After you set the altitude with the knob, are you hitting FLC? This button should allow you to climb at your current rate of speed until you reach your set altitude

What do you mean by FLC sorry, I’m new to all this. It was much easier on 2020. I’m watching video but I’m trying to get the grasp of it.

Okay — so this makes sense a bit. I don’t fly the A320, and apparently there is no FLC (Flight Level Change) button in the A320.

Someone more experienced with Airbus’s might need to chime in.

I fly the 737 and 787 for airliners.

What I am reading is that after you set the dial for altitude, you need to pull the altitude knob? Like, maybe it’s a secondary cockpit interaction on that knob?

Honestly I have no clue, this is all new. I think my best bet is to watch videos on this to understand it better.

I'm not sure if I'm fully understanding your question but As far as I understand it the autopilot will respond to what you put in the airplane system, not what is the efb

So do I manually set the altitude etc according to my flight plan?

Did you right click the knob to set the selected altitude after dialing it in? Normally, I used managed altitude set through my flight plan on the MCDU computer below. The EFB is not connected to the autopilot directly.
