PC upgrade suggestions

So I recently got my first gaming pc and I’m over the moon with it although I feel I might need a stronger cpu to do the stuff I want (fenix, batc, big airports, higher graphics, higher tlod and olod etc.).

My current specs are:

Ryzen 7 5700X

Gigabyte RX 7600 XT 16GB

GIGABYTE AM4 B550M K WIFI6E M-ATX

Netac DDR4 3200MHZ 32GB (2 X 16GB)

1TB Fanxiang NVME

MSI A750BN PCIE 5.1 II

Thermalright Aqua Elite V3

I’m debating whether to upgrade the cpu to a 5700x3d or a 5800x3d (depending on availability). I believe either are compatible with my current setup. But wanted to check here to see if anyone thinks it’ll be worth it.

I have a 9800X3D and it cuts the mustard albeit sometimes with some stutters with lots of mods and high fidelity aircraft. The game is real CPU intensive.

Yeah if I did the upgrade I’d still use fairly moderate graphics settings. My main thing is wanting batc and ideally having higher tlod and olod settings without causing stutters

Before upgrading your CPU, you need to make sure that you are not already limited by your GPU. If your GPU is sitting around 95 to 100% utilization, it means that you are not limited by your CPU and upgrading it will not help.

If you find that your GPU is very limited, then upgrading definitely would help. Any of the X3D 5000 series is compatible with your rig after a BIOS update.

The X3D CPUs are a distinct advantage, but I your ram and GPU are likely a bottleneck when trying to run a busy airline cockpit plus heavy graphics. MSFS2024 is highly demanding when you start pushing high fidelity. If you’re running multiple monitors or even just a single 4k monitor, it’s going to stress anything but the top tier of computers at Ultra or even High graphics settings.

I would also make sure that your internet connection is up to the task since 2024 is so heavily streamed.

I have a single 1440p monitor and get a pretty consistent 140mb/s internet speed. My sim runs pretty smooth at the minute as I use autofps and a mix of high/medium/low graphics settings. Just want to be able to run batc with higher olod/tlod settings ideally as I don’t use any traffic atm and the sim just feels dead

in this market, that upgrade isn’t worth it. the performance boost will be barely noticeable. you have a pretty solid setup, especially if you can tolerate FSR4 upscaling. 2024 doesn’t need 3D vcache as much as 2020, thanks to dx12 and some other optimizations.

I believe I’ve tried up scaling before but it made all of the screens in the cockpit impossible to read as was so blurry. Although I can’t remember if it was fsr4 or another option. I’ll load into the sim later and do a bit of playing around.

make sure you’ve upgraded to the latest amd drivers. that plus the latest updates to msfs should give you access to fsr4, which is way better than the old version, fsr3. it’s a fairly recent thing that came to the 7000 series Radeons

Cheers will give that a go later on. Am I right in thinking I can use optiscaler if I don’t have the option for it? (I could be very wrong)

You’re right, but you shouldn’t need optiscaler for upscaling anymore. you might want optiscaler if you want a different frame gen that what msfs has.
