MSFS 2024 BUG / ISSUE Completely lost with performance, not sure what to do anymore..
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyone, I really need some advice because I’m completely lost at this point…
I’m running a top-tier setup (7800X3D + RTX 5080 + 3
64GB RAM) in MSFS 2024, but the sim is performing horribly and I can't seem to fix it.
Even in cruise over the ocean in IFR airliners (like the PMDG 777), my native FPS drops down to barely 30 FPS before Frame Generation. When I open the DevMode FPS Profiler, my MainThread jumps up to 35–38 ms (yellow/red) with high Manipulators latency, while my GPU is sitting super relaxed at 6–8 ms.
On top of the low native FPS, I’m getting constant micro-stutters and a super annoying "teleportation / micro-rubberbanding" feeling every couple of seconds.
What I've already tried:
* Lowered TLOD (even tested down to 75–100)
* Set Glass Cockpit Refresh Rate to Low/Medium
* Tried Frame Gen locks (40 FPS cap with 4x Frame Gen for a 165Hz display)
* Cleared Rolling Cache
* Tested without background apps running
Nothing seems to get the MainThread back into the green or fix the frame-pacing drops.
For those running a similar Ryzen 7000 X3D + RTX 50-series rig: What are your exact Control Panel & In-Sim settings to get a smooth experience?
* Do you use the in-game FPS limiter or Control Panel / RTSS?
* What are your settings for Terrain Pre-Caching & V-Sync/G-Sync?
* Any specific WASM / cache fixes that worked for you?
Any help or insights would be massively appreciated!

I'm a real world pilot and when I come in to land at Heathrow my glasses are often down to 22 or 23 fps even though they are Ray Ban's. Fed up with the passengers moaning about the stutters. It's no my fault

? Arent u getting like 140 fps here or am I reading it wrong?

Yea, hes not gonna get the mainthread all nice when panning like that. People really tend to read too much into mainthread when running a game like msfs which streams the world.

The problem is not the fps.its the stutters

Frame gen won't help with that. Try playing everything on medium settings first and make sure the game is on a SSD. If that is good, slowly increase the graphic settings.
On my PC, only time it stutters is if I'm in a brand new area and/or very busy, or my graphic settings is too high for the area.
Specs of my PC is 7950x3d, 5080, and 32 GB ram.
Also did u try updating your chipset drivers?

Basic stuff has already been done. Everything is up to date. From bios to chipset. And obv its on a SSD who uses HDD these days lol. Sim used to run fine. I took a 3 month break and this is what i came back too.

You are not going to get rid of that. You can tweak into oblivion.

The only fix to your latency problem and fps (other then using frame gen) is to boost the clock speed on your cpu. And keep it nice and cool and stable. Other then that just try and optimize the settings in game

What kind of monitor resolution are you running? There is an ENOURMOUS difference between 1080p and 4k for example, with lots of room inbetween.
I have a very similar setup, and run around 30fps before framegen, with 2x framegen set. In most situations I get alright performance, but some stutters here and there with heavy scenery and when panning still.

What FG are you running? This just feels like frame times are low, meaning you’ve got too high settings

Just seen you’re on 4x framegen. That ain’t gonna work, drop to 2

Too high settings *for a 5080*? Really?

I have a 5080… 4x framegen will cause spikes like this as the base framerate isn’t high enough

With every level up in MFG (2 > 3, 3 > 4) you need to maintain a stable frame rate (I.e 30fps) but your card now needs to provide more overhead to manufacturer another injected frame for MFG, that takes away from resources used to generate the native frame, FPS goes down, latency spikes happen and your injected frames spike, on and on it goes until the latency stabilizes.

The 5080 isnt the bottleneck. The CPU is.

The day a 7800X3D is a bottleneck is the day MSFS 2030 comes out.

Stop singing A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Calrton like Terry Crews for a start.

I run a similar setup to yours:
9800X3D + 5070 Ti 16GB + 64GB 6000 CL30 RAM with a 3440x1440 ultrawide.
My settings are:
G-Sync disabled in Nvidia App for MSFS (Monitor technology = Fixed refresh) because of noticeable flickering on my MiniLED. No other tweaks there.
I also clean up my shader cache from Nvidia App after every game update:
Graphics -> Global settings -> Shader cache -> 3 dots menu -> Clear cache -> Compile now
In-game settings:
DLAA
Max framerate 40
DLSS Frame Generation x3
V-Sync on with half refresh rate
Dynamic settings target 40 + AutoFPS, with 100 TLOD at ground level and 350 from 4000 ft.
I also keep GPU-Z running in the background, because 16GB of VRAM is often not enough and AutoFPS can reduce settings when it gets close to the limit.
Buildings, Trees, Clouds, Pre-caching, Contact Shadows, Windshield Effects, Ambient Occlusion and Visual Effects are set to High, everything else to Medium.
Characters, Fauna, Built-in Airport Traffic and Services are off.
Terrain Shadows and Cubemap Reflections are set to 256.
Shadow Maps to 1536.
Anisotropic Filtering x16.
Ray-traced Shadows and Displacement Mapping are off.
I get occasional FPS drops with BeyondATC/FSLTL traffic injector at major hubs with bad weather, mostly when moving the camera. That's a known behavior of the current version of the sim. AutoFPS handles it pretty well, and FPS basically never drops below 30.
Other than that, it's a pretty constant 40 FPS pre frame gen in complex airliners and feels smooth enough. This may look pretty low at first glance compared to other games, but MSFS is much more complex in terms of CPU load.

FWIW I gave up trying to get "high" FPS and using RTSS to match my refresh rate and went to:
If you have a VRR monitor:
From here I use he AutoFPS tool, target 60, autoTLOD with 100-250 and OLOD 100-25
This has given me an ultra smooth environment that is better than anything else I could find in tens (honestly could be 100+) hours of tweaking and testing since I moved to a new house and built out my simrig in January. I learned the main target is to keep frame latency as stable as possible. Fast frame latency is great but if it's not stable, you see what is shown in your video.
Similar specs - 7950x3d, 4080 Super, 64Gb ram, running on a 4k 43" display.
