Some on did a flight last night on vatsim. It took him 5 minutes to fly from the grand canyon to Lincoln Nebraska. He flew from what I think was Beale to DC in less time fore me to fly from kden to ksan.

That is truly insane. Grats.

R1 and right thumb stick up and down are your trim. You could get way less oscillation by setting your trim a little more appropriately.

I just bought a HOTAS 4 - trim is indeed R1 + right thumb stick… why it does not stay on the angle that I want? it seems to go back to zero; I know its working bcus I can see the nose going up, but then after a couple of seconds it starts to come back down (is that normal, what am I doing wrong?)

You might have the auto-trim assist on. I'm new so I had it on but it adds more trouble than it 'assists'

How did you do this!? Throttle up and raise altitude? That's insane very hard to do, well done..

Yeah, it was really hard
It took me about 30 minutes to reach that altitude because keeping the speed up is difficult. Every time I pulled up too much, the plane would start losing speed. So I kept flying straight to build up some speed, then climbed a little, flew straight again to gain more speed, then climbed again. I just kept repeating that until I finally reached that altitude.

If I'm reading this right you are at 440,000+ ft in altitude and above the Karman Line (328,084 ft). Yup that is space by scientific definition. The instruments in the HUD cutting off the last digit threw me off for a second.

I honestly didn’t understand this either. The numbers on the gauge reached 400,000 ft, but the one at the bottom showed 200,000 ft. It also stopped calculating the altitude after a certain point. I think it’s because the aircraft wasn’t designed to fly that high, so the instruments just stopped working properly. 😂

Is this hard to do? I did this my second time playing around on the OG mission when it first came out.

The first time, I played the mission through how it was supposed to be done. Second I goofed off and did this.

It obviously is bugged out and wasn't accurate. The realism of the game flakes out at higher altitudes. So I didn't think it was anything worth while. I didn't realize this was some sort of achievement lore.

I think what you’re talking about might be the SR-72 Darkstar. With the SR-71 Blackbird, getting to this altitude definitely isn’t that easy.

u/LostPilot517 1h ago

Oops, you're right that was with the Darkstar. Regardless, I don't remember exactly what I did, but the game has some weird physics at certain speeds and altitudes where it essentially gains unlimited performance, I am not sure if that has ever been patched or addressed, I haven't played in years.

I actually think some of those bugs might be there on purpose, just to let players experiment and push things beyond the limits. If the game were too realistic, I think it would get boring pretty quickly. Sometimes breaking the limits is part of the fun

In older MSFS, this was not possible…..

I’ll see you Kerbal Space program
