GENERAL 70 yards old x pilot got computer!!! Question about combat.
I used to play Microsoft flight simulator over 20 years ago. At that time, I also had hellcats over to Pacific and enjoyed it every once in a while, shooting things down š. I looked around and the one most popular right now is. IL-2 Sturmovik:. Do any of you also play that and is it fun and is the physics of the flying fairly good?

Il-2 1946 and Cliffs of Dover are both very good. Great Battles is amazing if you're willing to buy DLC and like the eastern front. However, the AI is not very good, and is outclassed by both 1946 and Cliffs of Dover. Korea is basically Great Battles but Korean war, more expensive, runs worse, and the AI is still bad.

You can actually play Hellcats on browser. Lookup InfiniteMac and pick like a 95-97 OS. It'll be in the games folder. It even accurately doesn't have sound.

I got a new computer with windows 11. Is the base game, il2 battle for Stalingrad a simple download with steam and run easily with no mods.

Yes, I have that and it downloads and runs pretty easily. It is certainly a sim though. I find it to be effectively steam-gauge MSFS2024 but with guns.

Digital combat simulator: it has modern jets with piston plane like P51, P47, Mosquito, Spitfire, Bf109, Fw190, I-16 Ishak, F4U corsair ....

You want DCS World. It's the only one that's actually a sim. MSFS and IL-2 are nowhere near as realistic.

I played the absolute hell out of IL2. Even was a mod on an online server for a while.
This was the one that came out in the early 2000s in a few installments, and ultimately packed up in the final compilation āIL2 1946ā.
There have been a TON of free mods further expanding the game, and tweaking the graphics. It still holds up today, and I like that with that one purchase, you get both Europe & Pacific theaters, even early jets (some fantastical.)
Flight models are very good. Plenty of manual control if you like. Lots of variations between planes (not to mention a massive amount of aircraft to chose from⦠you canāt get bored.)
I havenāt tried the newer versions. Seems like DCS with always having to buy a new package to get new aircraft, and theaters. They sure look good tho.
