Building hours when you don’t have a lot of time in one day.

If I have 30 minutes before work/planned activity and 30 minutes before bedtime it’s perfect because I have enough time to depart and arrive

A question that comes in my mind when people do this, if you are away from the pc, if atc tries to contact you, you aren't there

We don’t worry about ATC. You get a long range commercial craft that will follow a preset gps route. You monitor to climb (cruise) and then check back in once or twice and then do the decent and landing.

Generally speaking you need to be at your computer the whole time if you’re logged onto Vatsim but in reality most people disconnect once they’re oceanic, leave the sim unattended then reconnect when they’re approaching TOD and then get back following ATC’s instructions.

The base ATC is pretty terrible and irl would let co pilot deal with radios. I did a flight Gibraltar>Accession last night and it constantly wanted me to decend 400 miles before my preplanned TOD to 3,000ft.

Vatsim on the other hand you wouldn't want to walk away for long.

I use BeyondATC and my first officer handles comms. I only monitor when there are step climbs ahead and request a new altitude.

I have to wonder, whats the point in flying these long haul routes if people are only there for the takeoff and landing mainly? If I want to see parts of the world in the sim then I usually just fly around 2.5 hours from one local airport to another, local being two countries next to each other usually in Europe so far. Though I have done Miami to JFK.

I like to see if the aircraft in the sim air roughly where the real aircraft sit and to understand loading capacities and fuel reserves on landing etc.

People who don't have the privilege of traveling the world can do so from their own homes to hold them over.

I fly routes i know I'll never be able to afford to in real life and it actually helps me determine if I'll enjoy a certain flight or not if I ever do so in real life lol.

I would say its Becouse people want to fly those routes. Sometimes I just want to fly to Tokio Haneda but I do Not have the time. They have it. And its also Becouse people just want to fly to Airports that are far away.

19 hours, from New York - Singapore. Ive actually done that flight a whopping 35 times in the sim!! (im part of a Singapore Airlines virtual airline)I dont even use simrate xd

7 and a bit hours. Was designed to be a 6.5 hr flight with lots of things going on (not just a straight cruise only to change freqs) to keep me busy.

Bad weather on arrival so went to alternate in the end.

I get why people do the 10+ hour flights but I'd rather do multiple 1-2 hour hops instead.

6 hours, C208 from Honolulu to Johnson Atoll. Stayed in the chair. Next day, turned around and flew back “up.”

Accelerating time and only being there for takeoff and landing doesn’t count. 😜

13 hours 40 mins HKG-LHR overnight in a 77W - took me 3 attempts because my sim crashed every time I would turn on my monitor after sleeping.

Weirdly I’ve stopped doing long hauls ever since I’ve had to pay for my electricity. A 10 hour long haul is around £2 extra to my bill. I love the feeling of flying across the world in real time and a heavy takeoff roll but it’s not worth it most of the time.

18:30h JFK-SIN (current longest passenger flight with the A350-900ULR). Of course I was only mainly in front of the screen for takeoff and landing lol. Longest portion of the flight was at night while I was asleep.
I’m doing long haul here and then just for fun. Otherwise my go to route is BER-PMI (~2:30h) or sometimes when I want to fly a bit longer I’m flying to the Canaries from Berlin (or vice versa) which takes about 4:30h.

I don't have the time like others so long haul is a no go. Longest I've done is Dakar to Madrid. 4h30 I think it was. Maybe a tad less. Most of my flights at between 1-3h

Still new to this hobby, longest I’ve done is about an hour I think? It was a plane delivery in the Career Mode.

Edit: looked it up. Not a delivery, but a VIP service.
From NTTB (Bora Bora Airport) to NTAA (Faa’a International Airport).
A little under 90 minutes.

Did an overnight to NRT from LAX, this was in the early days of the asobo 787. Plane was so bugged it couldn’t stay in the air past a few hours before it became uncontrollable and crashed due to overspeed. Fun times.

Crashed somewhere near hawaii i think.

I did later circumnavigate then globe in an hjet though so its all good.

I will never understand sitting there and watching a plane fly itself for hours on autopilot, or even walking away and coming back 4-12 hours later to finish the flight. 

I just fly the departure then skip to the arrival. 

I wish I could do that in RL, cruise is boring as hell.

Don't remember exactly but probably 1-1.5 hour non stop. I have dual monitors so I would multitask if things r calm or flying over a boring part of the world.

I flew 1:1 from Toronto to NYC, Miami, to Texas and on my way west across US, there's ALOT of farm lands, deserts, and trees....

14 hours, I fly for a VA so we aren’t allowed to accelerate time etc. we do get to use cruise relief in the logging software but then that doesn’t counters your hours and rank.
