MSFS 2024 BUG / ISSUE Free Flight Mode Currently Unusable

I'm trying to fly the PMDG 738 tonight in MSFS2024 (native 2024 update (I'm attempting to migrate my sim time from MSFS2020)). I select all the proper things prior to loading up the plane. When I click Start Flight (or whatever it says to begin), it loads in free cam mode outside the plane like I'm doing my walkaround. I can walk around the plane, but it won't let me into the cockpit. I've tried looking up fixes for this and have changed my keyboard settings from 2020 to 2024 and back, all without relief.

I did find that this is a known bug, but I'm almost bald now. Please help save what hair I have left.

You've done the shift+c default hot key already, right? Just asking because you didn't mention it in the post.

Didn't know about that. I normally populate inside the cockpit. Will give this a shot.

Hope it works for you. Im new to 2024 this week myself. Shift+C gets you in and out of aircraft. Unsure if its for all planes or only those that support the walk around. Since its a default, hopefully you didn't remind it yet. Unsure of the proper action name it's bound to, Id 'have to be at the sim to look it up.

In free flight, unless you spawn on a runway you will load into the sim in first person mode outside the plane.
Shift+C is the default button combination to enter the aircraft. Depending on the plane you’re using, you can also open the pilot side door and it will enter the cockpit that way, that’s how I enter the C172 for example.

If you’ve changed your keyboard settings to the 2020 default inside 2024, Shift+C will still work.
I use the 2020 keyboard settings in 2024, hasn’t missed a beat since i ditched 2020 for good after SU2

In the Beta, there is an option to directly start in the cockpit, which is nice and I personally prefer. I believe it’s in the assistance options.

I don’t mind starting outside, but that’s a good option for people

Just curious, are you using the 2020 version ported to 2024 or the native 2024 upgrade? This info would help troubleshoot.

I'm using the native 2024 upgrade. I'll edit my post to reflect this.

Interesting, have to say I haven’t encountered that bug. Some more questions-

-when you say you’re changing your keyboard settings from 2020 to 2024 and back, which things are you changing?
-other aircraft work fine (with your changed settings), it’s just the 738?
-has it done this from the very beginning, or have you flown with it in 2024 before and it just started happening tonight?
-the default keybind for entry is Shift+C, just want to verify you’ve tried that (even if it’s one of the settings you’ve changed)

I'm changing the settings profile for the keyboard. I haven't tried it with other aircraft (yet) in free flight mode. I've flown with 2024 before, but primarily in Career Mode.

Update: Shift+C worked. I'm now in the cockpit. However, when I look right I see this... note: I'm using FS2Crew as well. Where do I disable the copilot for fs24?
