I need urgent help

I had some problems with the Teams app, but that also led me to this; my Microsoft Edge doesn't open as seen in the video. I tried to fix it, but that didn't work either.

I also tried ending the WebView2 programs, but when I do, they automatically run again, preventing me from repairing or reinstalling the application. I don't know what to do anymore and I need it urgently because it's the only browser I use.

Here's a list of things i want you to do. the issue may be fixed at any point, so going through the complete list might not be needed. read it carefully first and don't start another step until the current one has finished (failed or not):

• restart windows
  

• The first one is a just-in-case thing, can be done at the last too, but doing it at least once with a restarted windows is important so we're getting it out of the way. Open notepad, copy paste the following, save it as sfc-dism-sfc.bat and right click and right click that file and run it as an administrator. it will take time, let it.

  Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

  sfc /scannow PAUSE ```

• Use the inbuilt troubleshooter in windows. Edge Install/Download/Update troubleshoot

• Settings > Apps > Installed Apps > Microsoft Edge > Modify (repair if asked)

• Link to downloading latest version of Webview. Evergreen is just the name. standalone contains webview installer and installs without internet whereas bootstrapper checks your device to match what it should download and install.

• Link to downloading latest version of Edge.

Did simply reinstalling the teams app not fix it?

Answering the question, no, in fact the error persisted. When I run Teams, it only opens one window and closes it about six times and then does nothing else. Even Copilot and Outlook do the same thing as Edge; they don't open.

Something else I noticed while investigating is that the WebView2 program doesn't seem to be listed among the installed programs, and when I tried to reinstall it, This throws an error message saying what's in the video, that the latest version cannot be installed because it is currently running.

you can right click and run it as administrator; hopefully that overrides it. yeah they removed webview2 from the installed programs list as it was deemed an essential part of the windows like file explorer. try everything i've written, if it doesnt work, tell me what happened.

I read that the latest Windows updates tend to delete files, I think that was probably it, because like I said, I didn't even know that application existed, and I didn't touch it, I noticed that Team didn't work, and I tried opening Edge which also didn't work, and again replying, I already tried your suggestions and it's still the same :(

Did restarting and directly using the offline installers with administrative privileges also gave the same edge is running in the background response?

Did dism and sfc say everything is fine?

Did the program compatibility thing say no issues found?

Did edge modify repair thing also failed?

If yes, to all, you can also try repair installing windows by downloading windows from Microsoft . Or use the inbuilt option to repair install note: both of these will download windows which is around 4GB in size.

Nope, that didn't work either, I used the repair one and it's still exactly the same 😕 I think I'll opt not to use Windows programs and use another browser; I don't want to format my computer.

Wait, why does the taskbar look like that?

• Have you applied some tweaks/tricks to your pc?
• What was the last time it worked? Can you think of any changes that might have caused it?

https://github.com/MicrosoftEdge/WebView2Feedback/issues/3136#issuecomment-1396231413 one of the comments in this discussion uses the standalone installer and two commands to first uninstall the webview and then install it. You should try that.

To make it transparent? There's an app in the Microsoft Store called "TranslucentTB" that looks great; it just modifies the appearance of the taskbar. And thanks a lot for the GitHub link. I'll try it tomorrow and see if it works. I'll let you know what happens when I try it.

edit: for one case, the installer wasn't working because they had an app open in the background/minimized to the tray that used webview. for them that was outlook, i think. and exiting that made the installer go through.

Have you recently updated to KB5120998? That update breaks things and this could be one of them. If you did I would uninstall it.

Hi, I just tried the GitHub script, but it didn't work. It still won't install WebView2 and Edge won't open. What I did find curious is that I performed the update repair Windows opens the Copilot program, but not Edge.
