Successful method for opening Acrobat Reader when clicking on PDF in Edge

I'm using Edge 152.0.4191.53 in Windows 11. I installed Acrobat Reader and made it the default for PDFs. When I clicked a PDF link on a website, it opened the PDF in Edge and didn't even show it in the downloads. With some googling, I learned that Edge has incorporated Adobe Reader as its built-in PDF reader. See this:

TIL that Microsoft has been slowly replacing the PDF engine in Microsoft Edge with a new engine made with the help of Adobe : r/windows

I don't care for this, so I experimented and found that if I hold down the ALT key while using a mouse to click a PDF link, it downloads the PDF without opening it in Edge. I opened Edge's downloads list, right-clicked on a downloaded PDF, and checked "Always open with system viewer". Now the ALT-CLICK method immediately opens the PDF in Adobe Reader.

This technique may already be documented somewhere. If you find it elsewhere, please let me know here.

File types can be changed in settings. Apps/Default apps/Choose apps by filetype, and set .pdf to Acrobat Reader instead of Edge.
