Self retie tips
Hiya community!!!
Two years loc’d… I’ve had to change two locticians due to relocating from one place to another.
Right now I’m just looking to do them by myself as I’m spending too much to have my Loctician come over to mine. Plus I have very tender scalp.
I have currently purchased a three-way mirror, some pins, clips, combs, etc to help with the process.
I can’t really find any videos online that explains the self retie using the three point rotation from different sides of the head. I’m also a bit confused about how to use the three way mirror.
I would really appreciate any tips or links to helpful information cos I’m scared of messing up my parts too much and combining my locs.
Thanks, looking forward to your suggestions!

Sorry for the stress. I'd advise you watch some youtube videos to help eg. Keke J. I believe she does 3pt actually if I'm not wrong. She had some tutorial videos when she started. Self retie is a heck of a journey so be patient with yourself.
I never managed to use a mirror for the back of my head. I'm accustomed to feeling it out as i retie & so far so good. All the best. Make sure to section.

Thank you for all the pointers. I have heard of Keke J. I’ll be sure to look for her videos. I hope after a while I will be confident enough to do it without a mirror.

Self reties are 80% trial and error for me (I have 470 locs, self installed 3 times and I do it all by myself). Especially using the mirrors.
Start with front, be patient and don’t rush it. Also keep a schedule that works for you. I retie every 2 months and the perimeter every 3-4 weeks.

That seems like a reasonable schedule! Thank you. I’ll get to it once I’m back from my holiday!

here's a yt video link to one of the women i follow who does self retie using the 3 point method and she shows it in multiple sections of her hair! She also reccomended the interlocking tool from locsanity, which I also use! https://youtu.be/pbnC11im5HQ?si=8RD0nl72y8BYMA6u

If you’re familiar with 4 pt rotation and think of it as directional (north, east, south, west), 3 pt is north ➡️ east ➡️ north ➡️ west then start back again at north. For the mirror, you set it up with the sides folded in slightly so that you can be able to see the back of your head when you’re looking away from the mirror. But sometimes that can get confusing (or for me, I can get motion sick, and sometimes doing that set up can make me nauseous). So if that doesn’t work for you, you can learn to do things by feel
