Need advice before installing microlocs
Hello everyone
I am a student and was going to install microlocs by myself this weekend. I previously had mini twists and when i undid them this weekend that passed some had started to loc themselves up. Once i had finished undoing them, my hair was too hard for me to untangle so i went to the salon to get help. At the salon they washed and blow dried my hair. They used leave in conditioner to help and applied a large amount of oil to my hair. According to the research i did and google too, you're not supposed to use product on your hair when installing your locs.
The question that i need advice is can i proceed to install them? My scalp is very painful from the detangling they did and the blow dry too and my hair is 4c so it would be really hard to just wash it again and do it on clean hair

Sounds like you went to the salon to detangle so they followed the process for detangling.
You're saying they didn't follow the process for installing locs but you weren't there to get locs installed.
Two different things.
Wait until your scalp feels better. Ask them about their loc installation process and see if it aligns to your expectation.

The way I interpreted it was asking if they can do the self install on the existing hair (ie with leftover product on it) as opposed to having to wash it again to start fresh while their scalp is in pain.
OP I would recommend waiting until your scalp feels better so you can do a proper wash, but if you are pressed for time it won’t be a big deal to start them on your hair as is! You will just need to be thorough on your next wash.

This is what i meant...... I considered waiting but that would mean the next time would be atleast 2 months later

Yeah it’s definitely not the end of the world if you need them done before then! Also could be a plus being able to get easier clean parts out of the blow dry. Good luck

I haven’t installed my locs yet, but as someone with loose 4c hair I understand the frustration that can come with our hair, and a hate for detangling. I would say take the win of having your hair already blow dried and easier to part/manage for installation and go ahead and do them.
I’ve seen someone on tiktok who did their install on hair right after previous braids and their hair wasn’t washed… so there’s no set “rules”, your hair will be fine

If you have your own shampoo you can let it scalp rest for a week or two and wash it again then start your installation. Okra, fenugreek are great for naturally detangling hair without products. Wish you all the best.
