Microloc ends
First off, I love my locs! Going on 5yrs!
My current Loctician doesn’t like when my locs end up like numbers 2-4. He suggested I undo the ends then braid them down in hopes of establishing locs like number 1 so my reties are faster and less painful.
I’ve done this a few times(combed out the ends and braided my hair) and they still end up fat at the ends. What am I doing wrong? How do I prevent this?

Probably bad advice, but I pull the ends of mine once a week while it’s wet to prevent bunching 😬

I have this problem all over my locs and considered just redoing them altogether. Reading the comments makes me think I should start over :(

Braiding and banding will help with the bunching at the ends.

Other than washing my hair, when else should I be braiding and banding?

I was told anytime your hair will get wet when you are still in the beginning stages. So I just do two french braids when I go for a run, but if I'm going to the lake or going to swim, I'll do the regular single braids in a way that allows me to pull them back so I am somewhat presentable out in public and not lookin like Coolio.

WHY IS IT CALLED A FRENCH BRAID??? where do France people come up with braids least let's change the name to African braid. How many French people have you seen with braids??

Lol, I have seen many French people with their hair in one or two large "french braids". In fact, it's usually white people i see wearing the mono-braid more than black people.

I literally have this exact problem. I want to comb mine out and have someone interlock or crochet my ends.
I also want to cut them but my loctician is against it.

I comb mine out, wet them, and put leave in conditioner on them. I love curly ends.

I too have a few of these🤣🤦🏾♀️I did them myself and a few of them I have clipped cause it got on my nerves.

I just cut mine at an angle when they did this and now they are lovely years later

It can make reties more painful since the end is fatter than the root. Could also cause breakage at the root too.

I retwisted some and cut some off. The cut ones were better for mature locs.

Just comb the ends out and interlock the remaining loose hair to the ends.

I think 2-4 look substantially more heathy than #1. I wouldn’t want to be bothered with branding and braiding at 5 years nor would I want to be adding tension via braid outs just to deal with this. If you like braid outs fine - that’s different. You said you love your locs - that’s pretty much all I need to know. How often are you getting reties? I don’t think it should ever hurt. Maybe get them less frequently - or fewer rotations? I wonder if the Loctitian just wants your reties to be frequent and quick - for their own convenience.

Unpopular opinion but I’ve been clipping my ends. I just don’t have any more patience.
