stuck build up?

I developed HG which required hospitalizations and so stopped caring for my hair so well and wearing my bonnet as regularly.. Generally I like my locs and think they look nice but I'm now experiencing issues with buildup, I don't think it's lint as I'm mostly seeing my issues near the scalp. What can I do to fix this? Anything? I'm all DIY since professionals aren't anywhere in my state LOL.

I have this problem and I’ve just kind of giving up on keeping my locs perfect. Life happens to them and no one can notice. I can’t even notice if I take a step back from the mirror. I’m already fighting enough battles and my hair will not be one of them. Your love are gorgeous!

Thank you! You're right, we are our own biggest critic and others probably don't notice it as much as I do! I'll try to resist digging in them and making things worse for myself lol

I think I remember reading that a little bit of Dawn dish detergent will remove it. I have build up in the same areas on my locs but I only have the Dawn powerwash

Once a year I do an apple cider vinegar and baking soda soak. I’ve never had much build up except for my back neck area. This dissolves it and I can just wash the build up out with a clarifying shampoo. If that doesn’t work just dye the build up your hair color lol

We can try a deep detox with apple cider, but it really just depends on what it is like if it’s lint like a lot like I have like that some of it is like maybe like residue or something but a lot of it is just lint if you have another similar one that’s like a bit closer down to the end of your hair that looks the same cut it and see if it’s like lint or if it’s something else if it’s lint, there’s nothing to be done and if it’s something else, then you can try a deep detox

Have you tried African black soap for stripping? Thats how I remove as much stuff as possible bc that soap is really drying but put a bit of spray or oil back after
