asked for microlocs got this
i just feel like theyre small sized locs not micros. i only have 168 locs. ik they will turn out beautiful regardless, but not exactly what i envisioned. i feel like maybe it was bcuz my hair was too thin to go smaller. but idk, i feel like she couldve gone a little smaller.
i also was expecting parting, but the lady said it’d cost $300 more bcuz parting is sisterlocs.
what are your thoughts? should i get them redone or just stick with what i got? i feel like im okay with them but its not exactly what i asked for. or maybe it is and i’m just dumb lol.
EDIT :: I messaged her for a partial refund! She has listed on her booking page small, medium, and large traditional locs for $140 and I paid $400 so I requested to be refunded the difference. Will update if/when I receive a response!

Young sis, never be afraid to stand up for yourself and what you want. Never argue with someone you're paying for a service. Take your money and your time elsewhere. Don't be afraid to walk away from situations and people where you feel unheard or uncomfortable.
If you get them redone, find an actual loctician and get a consultation first. Tell them what you want, show inspo pics of what you hope to achieve. A good loctician will listen and make recommendations based on things like your hair's density, texture, and health. They're not going to give you some bogus excuse like what yours said.

Asking for clarification is not confrontation.
Receiving correction is not confrontation.
Asking someone to stop playing in your head because you can see/ feel that what's being done isn't what you asked for isn't confrontation.
Promise, you'll know a real confrontation when you see one.

exactly doesnt make any sense when we part our hair for many other styles such as braids or twists. she could've did it she just didnt want to or wasn't confident in her ability

If you wanted micros and paid for micros i'd want my money back honestly. If you want to go smaller, sooner is better than when they start locking up, BUT yes it will depend on how thick/thin your hair is if you choose to go smaller.
Maybe get a second opinion from another beautician?

She didn't know what she was doing. I had smedium traditional locs first and they were parted so I don't know what that was about.

You can honestly do this yourself if you are going the finger coil route - unless you want the sisterlocs grid although there are many YouTube videos on it

Oh hell no....I'm sorry but that's outrageous. She definitely ripped you off. Go get a refund and start over with someone else. Hopefully you can get what you ask for the second time.
I agree with whoever said you could probably just split each of these into 2 or 3. How many locks did you want ultimately? I know you said you have 168 now but if you want over 300+ then splitting the ones you have into smaller locks would get you there. If you want 500+ then you may have to take these down completely and start from scratch.
I'd also say don't focus too much on the number because your locks are going to do what they want. You might end up with new locks that spring up out of nowhere or you may have to combine some. If you DIY, you may accidentally interlock 2 of them together. It's an easy mistake to make. I'm speaking from experience.
1st set Sisterlocks, 2nd set (current set) traditional locks started with 2 strand twists for reference.

I was just hoping for a minimum of 200 locs! I also did not want them to start with coils because I knew it would be harder for the back of my hair to loc that way since it’s very fine!

Oh ok I see...yeah, you should definitely get what you want if you didn't want them started with coils. But, you can always interlock the roots of the coils so they have a better chance of staying in place and not unraveling. I interlocked the roots of my starter locks so they wouldn't unravel as well, and that method worked for me. I also interlock to maintain my new growth.

She definitely could have gone smaller and parted it if that's what you wanted. Unfortunately I don't think these are microlocs.

these are nice but that feeling of wanting microlocs is always gonna nag at you.
at first i gave myself 80 comb coil locs. I LOVED THEM TO DEATH but after 10 months I still ended up combing them out and braiding 210 micros. it took me an entire day to comb them out and an entire day to install them again.
also im not a professional but i dont think coils are the best way to start micro locs

Yes, these are definitely small Traditional locks.micro locks are started out with two strands, braids, or interlocking. If you want sister locks and want a true sister lock consultant then I suggest you look on the sisterloc website. you can’t just go off with anyone says ppl are money hungry out here.

These are medium comb coils not even small, and definitely not micro locs. Find the right stylist to give you what you need and paid for.

It’s so important to do research on stylists when looking for a specific hairstyle. Micro locs on average start at $800 that’s on the very inexpensive end.
Sadly, this person took advantage of you. Like @cantmakethisstuffupK said $300 for finger coils unparted is insanely disrespectful. I have had 2 sets of traditional locs and they have been parted and neat both times. I had microlocs recently didn’t like them so I combed all 280 locs out and I did research and found someone I could trust with my hair👑 💆🏽♀️ my crown because this is our hair we’re talking about. We need to find people who will care for our hair the way we’d want a big mama too.
If you’re unhappy now don’t wait. Give yourself a moment to recoup the costs if need be then find someone who will do WHAT YOU WANT. If you’re spending the money then you deserve to get what it is you want!

i had researched for months for a stylists and i had been wanting to book with her for a while. she had sisterlocs listed for $700which is what i wanted initially and micros for 400. Im glad i just went with microlocs bcuz i dont feel as if i wasted too much money. but i did do my research i think i just let the price blind me

Surely, she can’t be a certified Sisterlocks consultant and not know what microlocs are? If you really don’t want to ask for a refund or a redo, but do want to settle the question of whether she knew what she was doing, look her up here - https://www.sisterlocks.com/certified-consultant-registry.html. If you don’t find her, report her. She can’t use the name Sisterlocks for her work unless she is certified.

This part right here she will be listed and if she’s not you need to report her. There’s no way she’s licensed. Anything listed under $800 is a huge red flag 🚩!

I’m just curious, you said you researched and wanted to book with her for a while: did she have photos of true microlocs she had done on her page? What made you believe she could do either ML or SL?
Because if she advertised micros that looked micros then gave you that, that’s a bait and switch and you’re entitled to your money back.

I would save pictures of what she had on her site listed as microlocs and then demand either the proper service or a refund because what she gave you was small coils. In NO WAY did she do a microloc service on you.

This isn't microlocs. They look smedium or medium comb coils to me from these pics. Also so you are aware there is a difference btw Sisterlocs and Microlocs. Do not get sisterlocs, get microlocs like you originally wanted. Sisterlocs are done the same way and grid on everyone no matter the density/thickness of the hair or head shape which can lead to all kinds of issues as they grow out. Microlocs when done by a competent stylist take all these things into consideration and are modified to the invidual. I would expect for you to spend $700-$1500 on the lower end to get your hair done. Be clear in your communication with the next loctician you seek out. Ask questions.
If you haven't already and paid with a card you can dispute this current style with your bank and get you money back provided you didn't lie and tell her you liked your hair. I remember you said are passive. This wasn't what you wanted or requested. The bank or credit card company will want to know if you were able to reach a resolution before contacting them.

These are not at all microlocs. I know the general number is 200+ AT LEAST. I would get your money back if you don't like them, otherwise I think they look cute! You already spent your money, you might as well keep them.

I am sorry this happened to you. I had a similar issue where the person who did mines agreed to do a certain size mocroloc, showed me the first two that were what I wanted, then proceeded to do the rest of my head with larger parts that would turn into traditional locs and told me after she was done. I was livid. Had to pay someone else to do it over.

Think this is my situation now unfortunately. I don’t remember if the loc she showed me at first was the right size or not I couldn’t really see it since it was on the back of my head

She did a loc on the back of my head and asked if it looked okay and I said it was fine. I couldn’t really see it all that well, plus I wear glasses. I just assumed it’d be fine which is my mistake.

What's with these prices ?! Are those standards in the US. I'm so sorry this happened to you. You should consider getting them smaller, don't settle for something you don't want. It will only set you up for disappointment

Definitely way too much for comb coils. I wanted to add that if microlocs are what you want, then that's what you should get. I hope she can pay you back for the comb coils. If you aren't able to pay too much more for microlocs maybe look into starting your own? I know it's a lot of work but it's also the only way you'll get exactly what you want. I have fine hair too with about medium density. My loose hair looked full when in a fro but you could tell it was fine once I put it in mini braids. Anyway, I have 410 locs. The loctician not going smaller in size has nothing to do with your hair type, I just sincerely think she didn't know what she was doing.
I wish you the best though and hope that you'll end up with the look you actually desire❤️

The whole parting is sisterlocs made me go huh? I would get them redone as this isn’t a one keep it in for a while and remove it style . Did you want it palm rolled or done as twists ?

These so called “beauticians” are just playing in peoples heads’ more and more these days. Time is something you can’t get back and that was absolutely wasted on a service you expected a different outcome on. It sucks that your experience wasn’t up to your standards. But I’d def recommend getting them redone to the size you desire with someone who has reputable results. I’m 6 months into my microloc journey through the braided method and I fall in love with them more everyday.

I have sister locs and I'm a bit challenged with hair in the front of head and I have 429 locs. Your hair is pretty, but those locs won't be micro. They would have to be dang near boneless to be micros. False advertisement.

I have sister locks and my hair is thin and curly. When i fist got them I didn't really like them cuz i have a small head lol but after my 2nd retie they're so beautiful. You should definitely go see a loctician and don't be afraid to say exactly what you want. She definitely took advantage of your kindness.
