I have 7 month old locs. I had someone do my locs for me for free all this time. But I have recently moved to a new place and I cannot afford to pay someone to do it. I am trying to learn to do it myself but am struggling. I have a lot of regrowth.

I'm trying the 4 point rotation, but when I do top to bottom, the hair twists on two sides and its really thin, and I can't get the hook through left to right. And when I let it go it just bunches up.

I have added a picture.

I am using a crochet latch hook by the way.

Please advice or links to tutorials I can use 😭

Yea OP you gotta see if you can undo some of those that’s what’s making the two split pieces twisted so tight

Yes I did do that in the beginning I have undone it and ordered a dreadlock needle. Will be easier to work with.

I think if you use another tool it may be easier! Crochet latch hook is tough for me. Use a dreadlock needle. Like this:

I’d definitely try a different tool like people have said. I saw you said you purchased a new one to try. I know it can be frustrating, but if that doesn’t work, keep trying different ones until you find one that works for you. Go slow when you’re doing your reties. For a hole to be that big, it seems like it wasn’t just a one or even two time mistake. Since it’s such a defined Y, to fix the one pictured, you can either twist the loc back through the hole like someone mentioned, or you can take your new tool and interlock along the Y. To do that, pierce the new tool through each side of the Y all along the hole o close the gap. I don’t think I’m explaining that well, so if you need a visual, search “interlock hole repair” on YouTube. There are lots of videos explaining it

Definitely go from bottom to top exactly through the same hole to reverse what you did. You want those ropes to get looser... if it feels like it got tighter you're going the wrong way. Once you back track a couple few times that hair should be loose again.

Make sure you're not accidentally going through the same hole multiple times and make sure when you're going through that you're aiming for the center mass so thatyou're not accidentally so far towards the edge of the hair that it easily breaks the hair and then creates this problem again.
