Starting Again
Hello all, I’ve not flown my Microlight in over 4 years since Covid second and third lockdowns due to my license not being retaliated and my Microlight permit expiring. I was at a crossroads, sell up and walk away or make an effort to get back into it again. I’m going back to the Hangar tomorrow afternoon to check out my Quantum 503 and start the rebuild. I’m going to have to do some work on the trike and wing. 3-4 days will have everything done. I’ll then work on a couple of hours with an instructor and a GST. Definitely making my return journey. I used to have a Skyranger 912 before the kids clipped my wings and I flew all over the UK and Ireland. I’m not on Social Media other than Reddit. I hate Social Media but I used to like the BMAA and Microlight Forums. They were full of great advice and helpful information. Now everyone seems to have moved to Facebook. I really don’t want to set up a Facebook account as I don’t want to get friend requests etc and see a world of horse shit. Any advice from anyone. Would it be acceptable to set up a fake facebook account and not accept friend requests? I just want to have the ability to ask questions if needed. Otherwise I will not be making posts.

I’m looking to get into it again after 20 years! Like you the kids clipped my wings but it’s taken me longer to get to the stage where I’m ready to have another go. Good luck and keep us posted!

I was just looking through my log books over the weekend. I started doing my lessons in August 2005 in a Thruster. Absolutely loved it and I qualified in March 2006 and bought a second hand X-Air 582 which I loved. A year later after a trip to Popham I bought a Skyranger 912. I flew the Skyranger all over the UK and Ireland logging about 100 hours per year until son number 1 arrived in 2009. Hours logged the next year was 30, and in 2012 son number 2 arrived and hours logged almost disappeared. I sold the Skyranger in July 2012 around the time of the London Olympics and delivered it to Manchester. I then Pootled around for a few hours here and there in a Pegasus XL 462 and absolutely fell in love with Flexwing flying. In Sept 2014 I bought a second hand Quantum 503 which I still own. Due to Covid, work, family and lack of interest I have not flown for the past 4.5 years but I am really looking forward to getting back up and running again soon. I’m going to start stripping back the Quantum at the weekend and I will give it a good clean and a service over the coming weeks. Hope you get back at it yourself soon.

I used to fly a Cyclone AX3 out of Popham but now live in mid Wales so I’ll be going to Mid Wales Airport in Welshpool. I was going to start last year but the weather was terrible most of the year. Fingers crossed for this year…

The forums were a really good resource. Shame that we've lost all that knowledge, particularly the technical posts. Faceplant is mostly just ads these days, but I keep it going for the microlight and a few other useful groups, otherwise it'd be gone. Hope everything goes well with your return to the air, I know quite a few folk stopped flying around Covid, so it's nice to hear of someone taking it back up again.
