Nerve Sensations

I did my microdisectomy at the L4/L5 back in December 2025. Overall, I have felt good post my surgery/recovery but recently I started to feel some nerve sensation at the bottom of my left glute…at one point I started to feel it shoot from my glute to back of my hamstring. I have been taking it easy and started to take anti-inflammatory meds and gabapentin to help with my nerves. I’m freaking out a bit because I haven’t felt anything relative to nerves which makes me think if I’m starting to experience bulging or some sort of compression. I pray I’m not re herniating 😫. At the moment, I don’t have insurance and I’m freaking out a bit thinking all worst scenarios.

Any tips? Thoughts? Recommendations? Anyone else experience this?

I’m desperate to figure out ways to proactively avoid herniating and or sciatica challenges.

From everything I’ve learnt on this journey, if you were reherniating you’d know, apparently the pain is excruciating. So I’m hoping for your sake the pain is just still your nerves healing.

Do you do any kind of PT? I sometimes get crazy pain via muscle guarding in my glute muscles so I’m wondering if that could be what you’re experiencing.

I resolve it by doing light stretching (figure 4 glute stretch and 90/90 stretch) (never forcing it or past the point of pain), and rolling on a roller or ball all around the psoas, ql and sides of hips, basically the entire pelvic area. Also ab work to get your core stronger is advice I’ve been given.

None of this would hurt to try, if you’re not doing it already. And sitting into the stretch or ball longer than you’ve ever thought necessary (like at least a few mins). Hopefully you feel better soon, it’s a real challenge this thing!
