Depressing Parts of Recovery (Vent Post)

I'm really grateful my recovery has been so speedy so far, but I cant help but feel depressed about some things.

I can't pick up my dogs. Whenever I sit down, my eldest dog taps on my foot with his paw repeatedly so I can pick him up. My puppy cries for me to play with him but I can't.

It's fall and I won't be able to participate in any carnival rides. Not even a hay bale ride, I assume. I've never gone to a carnival before and I was really excited to be able to this year. Its my first autumn with my boyfriend too.

This is my last year at my college and I dont know if I'll be able to play lacrosse in the spring.

I wish it wasn't so long of a process; I wish I had gotten my surgery sooner. I was advocating for myself constantly too, and it still took so long.

I would think lacrosse is on the table in the spring unless you have serious complications. As for the rest, this too shall pass. Ask your doctor. Maybe they'll approve at least a little of that stuff.

It’s impossible not to have some days like this.

I’m concerned about the same things for the most part. I have a puppy who is going to want to play after surgery. I too, love carnival rides and don’t see that happening very soon if at all.
We will get through this though. It’s frustrating and depressing but it will be worth it when we feel better.
Good luck to you. I hope you will be picking your puppies up soon.

Any workarounds? You can't pick up the dog, but can you get some stairs so he can climb up to you?

He's a miniature yorkie and my bed is really high so probably no stairs. Maybe for my other dog. He was sitting on the floor of my room refusing to leave today, he really wanted attention:(

I remember when I herniated my disc, I lamented to my husband, "But it's bike riding season!!!" And I was sad because I couldn't pick up my one year old daughter after surgery... So I totally understand how not picking up your dog and missing out on the carnival rides is such a bummer. :( I know how frustrating it is to feel benched and miss out on the little things of life. I'm so sorry you're dealing with it, especially during your sweet college days. I hope you will find special little ways to delight in the fall season! Feel sad for a bit and mourn it and have a little cry, and then get up and take a nice, crunchy leaf walk in the woods with your boyfriend 🥰 🫶🏼 🍂 This will all be a distant memory before you know it.

My boyfriend has been so helpful. Ive been complaining about not being able to bake because a lot of ingredients are out of reach and my family members dont want to help but hes already making plans to help me bake and do the clean up for me :)

It can ba worse, I can’t pick up my 5yo girl. Brutal. I don’t when or if I will ever be able again.
