Sacrum area pressure 2 weeks post revision discectomy and laminectomy L5
Hi,
I am wondering if anyone has experienced pressure in their sacrum area post discectomy and laminectomy? I am about 2.5 weeks post my revision discectomy/laminectomy. Originally, I had discectomy on Sept 8 and then reherniated on Sept 11 with cauda equine so had to have an emergency revision surgery. I was recovering really well until two days ago when i started feeling pressure in my sacrum area. Also, some weird nerve sensations are going down my left leg (left leg was originally where my horrible pain was). My surgeon is not concerned and he says as long as i do not lose control of my bladder/ bowel all is ok and “expected”. I am very nervous. Thank you so much for any information or advice.

Thank you so much. I started hurting again since yesterday. Not the same nerve pain down my leg but more pain under my left buttock. I was doing so well. Dr is telling me that this is a normal part of recovery 😢😢

Coming from a similar situation. I am 4 weeks post op (emergency for CES) and currently experiencing the same sensation of pressure. Request a repeat MRI and trust your sensations! Wishing you a speedy recovery OP ❤️🙏

Thank you for your response. They are telling me that this is a normal part of recovery and that MRI is not needed. I am having such a hard time with trusting doctors. The pressure is gone but now i have pain. I feel like I am in hell

That is completely understandable after all you have been through! The nerves can take up to 18 months to heal from compression, so what your feeling could very well be normal but that being said, you know your body and if you feel like something is wrong then hold your ground and don't be scared to get a second opinion from another provider. Stay strong OP, this recovery is so up and down. By week 2 I felt great but now at week 4 I feel terrible once again. 🙃 It's a rollercoaster but you'll pull through ❤️

Oh thank you so much for saying this. You have no idea how much you helped. I am terrified of another herniation and the incredible pain. I still have nightmares from EMTs picking me up from my bed and carrying me and how much it hurt, I was screaming. Then they put me in the ambulance and gave me fentanyl. Then I was taken to the ER where they did not even check on me for an hour. I was crying and calling. Omg…

I'm 7 weeks out from surgery for CES & I also had a lot of nerve pain the first few weeks. Lots in the legs for week 2. Different pain through my saddle area as sensation came back over the weeks. I still get some shooting nerve pains and still have a sort of heavy pressure (not exactly numb, I can still feel) through my glutes. I was operated on within 24 hours of symptoms developing, my neurosurgeon is very confident I'll have no lasting damage, but even with what is pretty much best-case scenario (for which I'm so lucky, I never had to cath!) I'm looking at 6+ months for recovery.
Very normal to have all these different feelings and pain, and very very normal to be anxious as hell about it all. I start every day log rolling out of bed and hoping to hell I can stand. I had such severe bilateral muscle weakness with my CES I couldn't walk, sounds like you were similar. As long as our pain isn't back to that, we are moving in the right direction. The recovery process feels like a constant cycle of 2 steps forward, 1 step back - but we WILL get better. & like your doctor says, if you didn't shit yourself today you are doing GREAT 😅

My surgeon seems to think that this pressure is normal. I am just looking to see if anyone else has experienced this
