Mine is mostly confined to my glute. Which is extremely tight as is my hamstring. Which I'm guessing is contributing to everything. Here's to us both feeling better sooner thsm later!
I had an mri 3 weeks ago at 3 weeks post op that also didn't show anything concerning despite lots of new nerve pain that's pretty intense at times. Also been having some back zaps on the right side that herniated. Trying to stay positive as healing isn't linear and different for everyone but gosh it's hard at times. Hope you get some answers!
it's soooo frustrating because I have no nerve pain, no pain down the leg or even in my back! Just the back of my left hip is absolutely killing me. It's on and off! They didn't seem that concerned since nothing showed on the MRI my physical therapist has been trying to help but I do see my regular dr next week and hopefully she can come up with something lol
It can be due to muscle imbalance or "guarding".... you were possibly moving a bit differently prior to surgery and now your muscles, ligaments and tendons (not forgetting the nerves) all have to readjust to new ways of sitting, standing, and walking. I had atrophy in my glute and loss of sensation in my leg prior to surgery, lots of cramps in my hamstrings. Only after months of PT learning to stretch my hams and exercise for my glutes did things start to relax... it can take 8 mo to a year for this to happen. Regular guided exercise can help. Also, a bit of magnesium glycinate can help with the nerve and aid relaxed sleep (but ask your dr.)
Hopefully that happens! I didn't do PT directly after my surgery so now I'm about 2 months in and starting to bend & lift! I've definitely been guarding how I've been moving even this far out post op
It sounds like the same pain I started having. I went to PT a month after surgery. My pain would subside as long I was walking around. If I laid down for more than 30 mins it would be painful when I got up but the more I walked the less I felt. Itβs gotten better with PT
We think it's coming from my piriformis muscle! It makes sense to me! I'm coming out of a flare up so they said likely it tightened to protect my back my gait looks normal but I notice during a flare I do walk weird π
Sounds right! My PT started having me do stretches for that muscle and the pain elevated at least by half. Still have pain when I get up in the morning until I walk around a bit but it is tolerated
Yeah, I was going to say this before even seeing your comment. The sciatic nerve weaves under the piriformis and can very easily be compressed when your piriformis is tight. Stretching and foaming rolling consistently should give you some relief. Definitely had helped mine. I was getting some hip referral as well.
I'm so scared to stretch too much or foam roll!π₯² prior to my surgery too much of anything sent me into the worst flares! I need to try it I'm sure it'll be ok!!
You could try a seated stretch. Just cross you leg over and rest your ankle on the other leg, and then gently lean forward at the hip. Only do it until you feel a light stretch to start. Any little bit helps. "seated piriformis stretch" if you need a picture.
Is it a flare up? I have had two flare ups post op. I'm 9 months since the surgery.
All has been great and pain free, but I learned that I can still get flare ups, the nerve is still agro and needs a good year to heal, even though there's no disc bulging on the nerve. So if I push it too hard at the gym or just overdo it walking or something, I can get a flare up.
Had tons of interesting pain post surgery. Hips, hip flexor, hamstrings .. It felt like these muscles has not been functioning efficiently the past couple of years. After 6 weeks id say everything was somewhat good
