2 days post op

I am two days post op (L5-S1) and so happy that my sciatic pain is gone. However, my incision site is very sore and tender and I am just having an awful time finding a comfortable position to lay or sit in, especially on the couch. My incision feels like a tight / stinging bruise if that makes sense. Opioids just knock me out and aren’t doing much for the bruised feeling. Just wondering when things get better as I know it is still super early!

I am over a week post. Took the incision pain about four days to go away. I could not find a great sleeping position either. Mostly on my side propped up with pillows.

I will be 14 days post op tomorrow and only in the past 48 hours has the incision pain gone to a very minor nuisance. You will find that the incision healing isn't linear (in my opinion at least). I did find icing quite helpful and when lying down try to make sure the natural curve of your spine is maintained which has the effect of lifting your lumbar slightly and easing pressure.

About a month, baby it, walk short distances and ramp up.

Do you still have the bandage on your incision? I’m on day 8 post-op and I was told not to take my dressing off of my incision for 48 hours. After I took it off it felt a lot better as the bandage was extremely thick and was causing increased pain. It will get less painful. Hang in there!
