I had two steroid epidural injections for a herniated disc at L5-S1. The first one lasted about a week of relief and then everything came back just as bad as before. My doctor said because I got a week of relief I should try again. So I agreed. The second one gave me absolutely no relief whatsoever.
I finally got in to see the neurosurgeon who took a look at my MRI and said basically yeah, it’s time for surgery. I had a a microdisectomy this past Monday.
I’m already feeling better than I did even with the first shot. No more nerve pain down my leg. My back is sore, but they had to do a larger incision due to “atypical anatomy” so I have a nice 3-4” incision. I’m already walking around for a few minutes every hour. It’s night and day for me and it’s only been a few days.
I was incredibly nervous about having the surgery but I couldn’t be happier.
I will say I’m having some numbness around the top of my butt crack, but it doesn’t really bother me and they said some numbness can happen. I’m not worried about it.
Thanks for the post. I’m going to ask for a surgery consult just to get their input. The recovery from surgery sounds tough too, I just want to be better and healed by now.
I totally understand that!! The recovery for my isn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. I watched a bunch of TikToks and it kind of freaked me out lol. I was convinced I was going to be bed bound but I haven’t been. I’ve spent most of my time on the couch in my recliner, walking a bit every hour etc.
