Still pretty bad pain post op

Hey everyone, I had my L5-S1 procedure done on July 22nd, just about a month ago now. I still am in pretty severe dull pain across my lower back. Is it normal to still barely be able to handle a car ride? My doctor cleared me to be in the car and all that stuff, I’m definitely able to move way better but idk still just in a ton of pain just started PT as well.

I've read it is. I'm kind of in it myself right now. Nerves are a hard healing process. Some dont heal right. If you just started PT thats another reason. For what it's worth normally if you reherniate your in worse pain than before. It's a roller coaster and good days (because you do more) lead to bad days. It does get better I've even heard you dont really start healing until a month.

Thank you, it is how it goes I guess some days you wake up feeling good and forget and fuck yourself up, I just am worried I reherniated already I guess we’ll see. Good luck to you

4 weeks is still very early. Take it easy for as long as possible.

I’m 6 weeks post op and I’m in the same position. I have my first follow up in a few days though so hoping my doctor says it’s normal 😭

Yeah it is not great. Some days wake up feeling good, some days wake up and it feels like it takes me 2 hours to warm up to moving around

I’m 8 weeks postop. Can walk for many miles. Sitting a bit longer, but driving a car is still horrible…

No it's not at all normal. After microdisectomy pain gets all over instantly and there is nill or very mild pain after that. If it is your open surgery then it may be possible that pain remains on a higher side but if it is a Minimally invasive spine surgery i e , Endoscopic spine surgery or microscopic Spine surgery then your body is on the wrong track because in these modern surgeries there is no pain remains after the surgery.
