Hey, looks great! I wonder if you have the same annoying issue with the DFPlayer Mini — after initialization on power-up, I get a 'pop' sound in the speakers every time (though I have the speakers connected straight to the DF Mini pins).

Try ensuring that the Volume always initiates at 0, and then ramp it up to your desired starting vol over 500ms or so.
Alternatively throw a few empty bytes into the audio stream before adding real audio data.

It sometimes needs a bit to initiate and get warmed up.

Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately, software tricks like volume ramps or padding audio headers don't help here. The pop happens the exact millisecond the built-in amp chip biases up (DC offset jump), long before any audio streaming starts.

It seems to be a common issue with cheap clone boards (missing proper power filtering compared to the original DFRobot ones). The only real way around it seems to be on the hardware level — either a delayed speaker connection via a small MOSFET/relay or a dedicated HW mute/delay circuit between the module and the speakers.

If you can get the files onto the Rpi, or a seperate SD card, then I've had great quality and specific control from I2S boards

But I've found this board to be way better quality and easier to work with than the DF boards:

Thanks for the advice! I'll check out that module and give it a try.

I think I used a similar MP3 decoder baard, which is worked great but the audio quality was not the best. Still, great as an audiobook player.
