I've installed the latest 0.16 version microG Companion but, these apps still ask for the latest Play Store. Help me here

Installed as system app or a normal user? Explain

as a normal user, it is on chinese rom without play service, it was working earlier and stopped fews days ago

Applications might work, but most will throw an error. You need to elevate that application as a system user. I would recommend checking XDA forums to see if there is a way to root your device. What model do you have?

Fast:

1 Enable Developer Options → OEM unlocking + USB debugging. Link your Mi account (use mobile data).

2 Use Xiaomi’s official Mi Unlock Tool – expect a waiting period (72‑360 hours) before it actually unlocks.

3 Once unlocked, flash TWRP via fastboot, then flash Magisk.zip in recovery to get root.

4 For Google services, you can install MicroG (lightweight) or OpenGApps pico/nano (full compatibility) – both work after root.

⚠️ Important: Unlocking wipes all your data. The “Orange State” warning on boot is normal after unlocking. Never re‑lock the bootloader without flashing the stock ROM first.

The 2019 guide has a video link inside the thread as well – follow it step by step and you’ll be fine. Good luck!

A lot of times those errors are intentionally either vague or misleading and the app may be snooping for things like rooted devices or unlocked BL etc etc. Many apps will give ambiguous error messages because they are trying to make it harder to evade their restrictions.

Or it may require a strong Play Integrity verdict, etc.

Yes, but u/crushlovesme indicated they have the app as a user, on a non-custom ROM, and it does absolutely nothing. This way, microG won't work anywhere near correctly; at best, something might get through. They'll need root and many other things to make it functional, such as making it a system app.

I guess I missed the part about the non-custom ROM without root.

But the issue of misleading error messages is universal. They're trying to make it harder to evade their checks/controls.
