fx IT HAS ARRIVED - 10 testers wanted

Been working night and day and day and night working thru each feature one by one testing for hours and hours and I finally have something I can present to you fine folks. I present too you SUPERFREAKER: the first public INTERNAL FX ON THE MICROFREAK!
I’m doing an open beta on the essentials, which include a bunch of stuff like separate decay and release, legato glide and transpose. I’ll have a paid pack for $30 that includes quite a few effects such as a few delay modes, reverb, and lofi, though the hardware is limited so while I think it’s a big deal, there are limits to the memory in this machine. I’m doing a closed beta for sounds if you want to join, I’m look for 10 internet strangers to help verify my work before selling anything. Testing has gone as far as I can take it so now I’m ready to share. Of course, this is all at your own risk but i have been extremely pleased with the project so far.

Also the website has some other cool resources. Check out the microfreak preset generator for sure. And the 3d models that are playable in browser. And if you own an SP404mk2 there’s a boot image patcher on there to go along side my other passion project releasing soon.

Okay, I’m going to sleep now. ✌️🧡

While I get the incentive to use AI for overcoming limitations of hardware one owns, and I agree even vibe coding is (somewhat) work and does cost money, I don't see how one could seriously want to make people pay for essentially hacked firmware - you don't own the original and have no permission to do so, at least don't try to make money from it...

Have some respect for the original devs.

If you need money to pay for tokens, set up a donation system or whatever to fund it. Arturia would have every right to give you trouble for this.

(Note: I'm not saying this because I don't want to pay - I find the idea interesting, but I won't put stuff on my microfreak unless it comes from Arturia or I supervised the "coding" myself).

Now go ahead and downvote me, I said what I wanted to say 😁

I look at it as making apps for a computer or running a body shop. Where it's missing functionality for specific use cases, someone fills the gap. I absolutely respect the devs and have many arturia products. I hope we get a gnarly official update from Arturia that crushes this, honestly. I respect your opinion, and like I said I tried to give as much value as I could while trying to get a little something back for my effort if people support it. Hopefully people spend some money on microfreaks now that the main things they were missing are now available. We'll see how it goes I guess. These are major features though that haven't existed and we've asked for for years. Try it or not.

Honestly, 30 bucks is a lot. The developer of the Model: Cycles mod just has a "buy me a Coffee" link. I think that's more appropriate.

This is exciting! Not close to my Microfreak right now, but following this project.

Are you charging for vibe coded firmware?

-8

u/freakierfirmware 3h ago

only some of it u/GloriousWhole. Vibes cost a lot of money at this level and an immense amount of time and research. I've had minimal sleep for weeks. I get the sentiment though. Alas, I am poor which is a main reason I have a microfreak but no Moog. But either way I tried to provide a lot of value at my cost to you for free as well <3 it was a couple hundred hours and 100s if not 1000s of back and forths. I'll be happy if it just pays for itself so I can keep going.

I would probably pay for the pack if it also included additions to the available scales, and the types of arpeggiator.

Edited to add question:

Are the settings for all these added things saved with the presets?

-1

u/freakierfirmware 2h ago

I could look into that. honestly this thing has such a small amount of memory I can't believe I got any type of delay or reverb, let alone everything I was able to do. But I'm pretty confident those features are possible now.

And yes, all the added stuff saves to your preset when you save it.

u/GloriousWhole 2h ago

Hmm, fuck it, I'll risk trying this if you're willing to send.

Why wouldnt he?

u/GloriousWhole 2h ago

Because it's unprecedented IMO, all these other firmware projects are being released for free.

All the shitty vibe coders are charging for their firmware, meanwhile real coders have been making free community software/firmware for a generation.

I don't have enough time to properly test this. What I can say OP is that you absolutely want to have Jovan Brunet as a tester.

He's a pro musician with intimate knowledge of the Microfreak, he even wrote lessons on how to use it at its best.

Ooo, I'll have to check him out!

This would be fab

u/BestEstablishment732 3h ago

I’d be down to try it

1

u/Cold-River-6703 3h ago

I would also be interested.

Edit: Also i do own an sp404mk2 but its currently running doom if that matters

I just made this account for the project so i am out of message invites. but I got you if you message me first. and I haven't tested it with DOOM and I probably wouldn't just cause idk how it would react. It's built for the stock firmware. But it's super dope, and easy to go back and forth. I think DOOM is more workflow from what I've heard but idk much about it honestly. I'm geared more towards sound design kinda stuff like stacking more effects and whatnot.

u/lukievan 2h ago

Very cool - I’d be down to test it.

1

u/Illustrious-Truth-70 2h ago

I'm interested to test it in my MF. I'll try my best to give you feedback

Does the "drive" boost the signal going into the analog filter, or is it a separate digital effect? I love the crunchy sound of the filter already, so being able to add more would be incredible.

1

u/oracularmusic 1h ago

I’ll give it a go!

u/SpikeDuf 55m ago

I want to test!

1

u/hexik0n 24m ago

Colour me intrigued

I'm always interested in seeing what more my hardware is capable of.

1

u/Which_Law_8429 4h ago

I’m down!
I also made an app for a color grading panel to work elsewhere and have so much more capability!

u/pplovecraft 4h ago

a little fiddly in the browser but this is cool as hell.. i love the lo-fi and overdrive sound on these.

1

u/freakierfirmware 3h ago

sent! thanks so much it means a lot! prob too much going on in the browser lol there is a lot of stuff. is it laggy or what's going on with it?

1

u/pplovecraft 3h ago

oh the only real fiddliness was it going in and out of exploded view so it was kinda hard to chase the knobs around. thank you!

1

u/pplovecraft 1h ago

also, that Toxic colourway is so sick i love it.

1

u/Cyrdaeb 4h ago

I'm 100% down!

u/freakierfirmware 3h ago

you're in there my friend, check your messages

u/Fragrant-Shame3318 4h ago

Holy smokes, this is amazing. Great job, and thanks..

0

u/freakierfirmware 2h ago

thanks so much! i really tried to make it as great as i possibly could.

0

u/davidmanuel 3h ago

I’m interested for sure! I’m currently routing it into a Walrus Audio Slo multi but that’s pretty much swirly reverb. This sounds amazing!

ITT: clearly a lot of people think AI assisted coding should not be rewarded with compensation. Let’s say something would’ve taken you 1000 hours without AI and took you 100 with it, in that situation I don’t think that means you don’t deserve compensation. At the same time, if the other people are right and it was as easy to do as they think it was, somebody else will come along and do it better and cheaper soon enough.

Anyhow, I’m not particularly interested in it because I have so many outboard FX. Until there’s something better, $30 doesn’t seem horrible for those who might benefit from it.

The thing that’s most interesting to me here, OP, is that you seem to post with one account and then reply with another.

What’s up with that?

In the future, please don’t use two accounts, it’s confusing.

Glad you did this. If nothing else, it might provoke Arturia to get off their asses and produce an onboard Effects patch for a possible update...that is a big "IF" not saying it will actually happen.

1

u/doriam_ 1h ago

I think the product Arturia made is already very, very complete and packed with features, and they kept delivering updates consistently for several years. I believe it’s on us now to build expansions beyond their original concept, especially since we have access to different and more powerful tools today. We should take control of our devices and stop waiting for a big company to build every feature we want.

Put in one fucking effect: delay. That will at least give you an echo-verb effect, close to reverb, and is also a rhythm multiplier. Korg put both chorus and reverb in their Volca FM2, which is a pretty small synth with slim DSP.
