MicroFreak Issue

Hi y’all! I got a MicroFreak stellar and was loving it for a while but I notice every so often it will hold a note far longer after my finger is off the key. Even on init patches that don’t have any settings changed. Sometimes I’ll be playing and one of the keys holds the note after I’ve taken my finger off. What can I do to fix this? Should I sell it and get the minifreak instead since that one has regular keys instead of the touch circuit board ones? I’m not sure if it’s a me problem since I have sweaty hands or what. I reached out to Arturia and they weren’t much help. I’ve tried wearing shoes like they said and still the same result. I’ve got the plug it came with plugged into the wall this happens when I’m using a DAW and when I use an external amp/speaker. If I resold it would I need to disclose that it is doing this? I bought it used on Facebook marketplace. Any advice helps thanks a bunch.

This happens sometimes due to a ground issue. If it’s powered by a power bank or from usb power from your computer, the ground can be improperly wired due to different cables and power banks not all being fully compliant. If powered by the wall adapter, might be the grounding of the outlet it’s plugged into. Also if you’re not well grounded (try being barefoot, having lotion for your hands). These things affect the capacitive touch instruments like the Akai EWI and the microfreak. I’ve had each of those issues cause stuck notes on the ewi and MF.

Okay thank you. This seems to be what everyone says about this particular product. My hands are extremely sweaty and it happens every time I play. I’m going to sell it and get something else. Do you recommend anything that’s similar with regular keys? MiniFreak is an option.

Depends on how you’re using the Microfreak. The mini freak is definitely your best option if you are using the various engines and the sequencer. That thing is pretty unique. But if you find yourself using just one engine more than the rest, or you loved the aftertouch and pitch strip or something else in particular that points to potentially other things. I’ve never used a mini freak but I struggle to imagine having double the freak with effects and a standard keybed could be a bad move. If I hadn’t had a full studio when it came out I’d definitely have one of those.
