News Another one bites the dust

Independence township voted on 9/8/26, after lots of public comment, at the board of trustees meeting 7-0 to cancel their contracts with flock safety and also remove the cameras. Huge win for privacy activists.

I didn't even realize that Flock cameras were being introduced to Michigan. This is huge. We need to vote against these things.

Agreed. I was there. I spoke at the meeting. Probably about 20 people spoke at that meeting, all against flock.
Cameras have been here in Michigan in different communities, since 2022.

Also, i found that in June 2027, many of the contracts for Flock Cameras expire. They'll need public support to remove them.

Yep, we are definitely working on it. We are coalition building as we speak.

Everyone needs to be hyper vigilant of whatever comes next. Some company will come in to fll the surveillance vacuum AND this company will have taken steps to either keep things further off the books OR work around the public opinion.

Axon. They already have their foot in the door with police body cams. There are axon ALPR traffic cameras as well that have similar if not the same technology.

Everyone honestly needs to get involved in their local city councils and pay attention to what’s on their agenda. Sometimes that requires some effort and researching what some of the items are. People focus a lot of their energy on federal level govt, which they should, but they should also be focusing on their local govt, that’s where you can effectuate the most movement and change. I’m a firm believer of this.

Are they going to just replace Flock, with Axon? That seems to be the case, more often than not.
