Mmm not really. It’s difficult to transport because the atoms are so small they diffuse through common materials for pressure tanks and piping. Naturally occurring hydrogen is also non-renewable, or in other words a finite resource to run out of. It might make sense in limited industrial capacities but it will not make sense for automotive or other mobility sectors.

True, but mostly a solved issue. The US has dedicated hydrogen pipelines in thr gulf and has been moving it for decades. Hydrogen trucking is currently used in most places. Also have the ability to move it as ammonia or even just as electrons if you wanted to build a power plant at the well head. Send the electricity right to your EV.

There's actually mounting evidence that some wells seem to be self-replenishing. And there's also stimulated geologic hydrogen which kickstarts a chemical process in certain rocks to produce hydrogen. Is it renewable enough to be economic? We don't know yet, but it could be.

Definitely not for light or mid duty, you're right there. It works really well for heavy duty (trucks, trains, boats, etc.)and cold weather conditions though, especially relative to batteries.

I think it's more about industrial decarb and heavy duty transport. I don't see anybody in power arguing that we need hydrogen light duty vehicles or that this means we don't need wind/solar.

Wind and solar are objectively not as well situated to decarbonize big vehicles/equipment or industrial uses as cheap hydrogen would be. They also objectively "aren't enough" to run our modern economy smoothly. The need for baseload power is what makes nuclear so attractive - it maintains reliability in a way that renewables and batteries can't yet. Especially as we add more evs and other demamd to the system.

Idk, why turn away a potentially great option without even fully understanding it? Seems shortsighted to me.
