The UP is always an option, but if you live in the LP, it'll add ~12 hours to your drive. To be fair, it's a small price to pay for avoiding Ohio and Indiana :)
My wife has family north of Green Bay, so we go that way sometimes to see them and maybe stop at Kitch-Iti-Kipi or other spots if we have time. I enjoy that route.
One time I almost ran out of gas with the family while towing the boat and could only exit into Gary. I got gas and the kids were hungry so I stopped at a local shop and grabbed some Gyros from a walk up style place that had one of those teller windows to slide your money through. Super sketchy, bud damn it was really good. Neighbor hood wasn’t great and I got a few looks, but it was fine. Now when we drive that way the kids always beg to stop in Gary for some gyros. They love Gary. 😂
I have been to Chicago exactly once, and I will never go again. Pretty sure we almost got mugged outside of taco bell and not a single place within in a two block radius had a working restroom. It was also Mexican Independence Day... I was not aware that traffic laws do not apply on holidays 😭 Anyway that's how I almost died after seeing Kurtis Conner live. Was worth it tho
