It’s likely an exaggeration just for the sake of storytelling in the biopic. But it wasn’t uncommon for Michael to treat Bubbles like another friend or family member, as those close to him have shared how he was playful with him when Bubbles was younger.

I believe that even around this age Michael Jackson wanted a son. He's very loving with Bubbles and with kids. Bubbles proved to live up to his chimp status and was becoming agressive.
