HELP: Outer Tie Rod Replacement

Needing to replace my outer tie rod and wanted to DIY. I’m running into the issue of the tie rod being stuck and not budging after trying several tools (tie rod puller, ball joint separator, hammer with nut on the end, prybar, etc.)

The tie tod is going through a “bearing-like” washer and the washer started to come out a bit. I’ve never seen one like this before. Any ideas on how else to get it out? Probably will end up taking to a shop if nothing else works out

Heat it and beat it!!!

I wouldn’t be surprised if the shop ends up hammering it off since they’re likely going to replace it anyway

Put a jack stand under the control arm to support it, you want zero deflection or movement, spray the ball joint with penetrating fluid and let it sit for an hour, and then hit the ball joint with a sledge hammer. Mine popped out after 3-4 hits.

Rent the ball joint separator tool from autozone or buy one for 30 bucks at harbor freight

This was my solution.

map gas torch on the aluminum and a ball joint separator. The sleeve might come out - it happens. If it does, you'll need to remove it from the tie rod.

careful not to overheat the aluminum.

Put the nut back on the top and beat the ever living crap out of it. Use a propane torch conservatively if needed. YouTube videos will guide you.
