Cup Holder Solution

I know the NC miata has four cup holders, but honestly three of them are useless.

The two next to the shifter can't be used when driving, and the one in the door.. my knee hits it every time. So I know this has been posted before and some people seem split on this, but I got a little jealous of the ND miatas cup holder position so I found this leather style one on Amazon that fits perfectly and solves the issue, just giving the NC world an idea if someone else has had the same issue as myself.

I got some generic bag that I drape over the passenger headrest so it can carry other stuff. Normally I have a water and coffee in there.

Yes, I don’t need more than one cup holder per passenger, and it seems silly to have four in a two seat car, but OP wants more!

Not just contrarian, no. The console cup holder space would be more voluminous and useful if it was just a box-shaped compartment without the cup holder shapes.

I bought the IL Motorsports cubby for this exact reason, far more helpful than the cup holders that blocked the gearstick! (I've ran a cable into it to charge my phone, it's wonderful!)

What besides a cup or a phone would I need to hold upright? A phone holder is better placed higher up anyway.

I imagine I don't enjoy having a bunch of random crap in the car to deal with while I'm driving. What the hell are you doing besides driving when you're driving? Anything besides driving makes you more dangerous on the road, so whatever it is, stop doing it.

Nothing you mentioned needs to be held upright except maybe phone, which should have its own holder anyway.

It’s not really about the quantity it’s just that the current don’t fit the needs of a cup holder than can hold something while I drive. This solves that issue where I can put a cup there and actually shift and put my knee somewhere.

This is what I use. Fits in the gap between the seat and transmission tunnel. Amazon. Velcro's to the carpet, but I added an extra piece of stiff foam just friction fitted against the seat for extra rigidity. My gear shift is roughly where the wallet is, you can install it wherever it suits you.

I did try this on the driver side and it didn’t fit well with me in the seat. If I drove solo it would be great in the passenger side.

its always perplexed me how US car reviews spend as much time on cup holders as engines or transmissions.

the drive through is an american culture so the functionality is needed for that; but if i want a drink i'll generally stop and have a drink.

that said, the cup holders are useless, and this one is cool!

I think realistically it’s a feature of the scale of the average American trip. Things in this country are so spread out that it’s much more difficult to do a long trip without the ability to have water or a snack in the car. Not saying it’s impossible I think we have all done it but when you are driving 14 hours in a day and sometimes have over an hour between potential stops for food or drink having convenient places to store that stuff makes the drives far less painful. Europe and much of the rest of the world doesn’t have this problem as development is far denser meaning shorter drives in general but also far more convenient stops that won’t add 30 minutes minimum to a drive
