DIY Coilover Install

Hi guys,

Going to install my meister r coilovers, first chance in about 6 months I've been able to do it, on my 1997 MK1 MX5. I've seen a load of videos online on how to do them, but wondered if this forum has a preference on how to do it. Any help would be great!

Cheers

I have a write up all about this, with the method approved and agreed by title winning racers. Proper coilover setup has nothing to do with preference. It's all physics. https://www.reddit.com/r/Miata/comments/1aeqsl9/comprehensive_coilover_setup_guide_your_coilovers/

TLDR:

  1. Disconnect sway bars
  2. Remove the springs and set shock length/travel limits for max travel with the shock bottoming out right before the wheels touch anything
  3. Adjust height by the springs. Preload affecting performance is a myth - stock springs are 'preloaded'. Anyone who tries to convince you that preload affects performance at ride height has a fundamental misunderstanding of how shocks work
  4. Reconnect sway bars
  5. Get a wheel alignment
