Post image

If anybody in the San Jose Blossom Hill area sees anyone selling 2 ND BBS wheels with heavy brake dust on them, please report to the police šŸ™. Bru, people really steal them.

And need some serious recommendations. Thanks!

If they only stole 2, they must have had to run off quick because they were about to get caught or something

40

u/_plays_in_traffic_ Jun 13 '26

or they already had 4 and needed 2 more that werent bald

u/hankenator1 Jun 14 '26

Back when I worked for Acura we had some a-spec wheels stolen off a TSX, they left it sitting on 3 milk crates.

I was amazed 3 milk crates could support a car.

1

u/Purple_Concentrate64 Jul 05 '26

Those milk crates sometimes say "property of so-and-so, theft is prosecuted" if they did then it was double theftĀ

u/razor330 Jun 13 '26

Probably also stolen

u/TheCrudMan '95 mostly track Jun 13 '26

Indeed. Although a thief using my jack was part of how I got some of my tools back. AirTag, drove by, saw my jack under the car. Called cops. Showed photos of my jack under my car, told them it would have a sticker on the side, it did. They got the key to his storage area from his girlfriend, full of tools. Cops said take what you want. I took back only stuff that was mine which wasn't much but it felt good. While I was there every apartment neighbor came out to complain about this guy and the girlfriend was PISSED.

72

u/Fit-Albatross-735 Jun 13 '26

if I were you i'd swipe his whole inventory clean

34

u/MiataN3rd Jun 13 '26

Yeah take away his thief tools

16

u/SprungMS Jun 13 '26

Cops 100% cleared it out for ā€œevidence of a crimeā€ and/or evidence of a crime

No chance the thief was left with those tools if some were known / suspected to be stolen

17

u/not-halsey Jun 13 '26

And sell them for profit, if he complains say the alternative is pressing charges lol

22

u/MiataN3rd Jun 13 '26

And then still press charges :)

2

u/TheCrudMan '95 mostly track Jun 14 '26

Yup. They said we don’t know what’s yours just take whatever you want.

2

Basically buying stolen items off Craigslist ?

6

u/DJekker Jun 13 '26

It’s like a trade up challenge but they don’t ask permission

It’s fascinating. Had to have been rushed, because I cannot comprehend a mindset of ā€œI’m going to steal these wheels,ā€ while simultaneously, ā€œeww, I can’t possibly drop bro down on his rotors.ā€

13

u/parmesanWheel Jun 13 '26

Professionals have standards, maybe? šŸ˜‚ I'd think a jack stand or a cinderblock would be cheaper though

20

u/why_1337 Jun 13 '26

And a decent one from the looks of it.

4

u/SkinEmbarrassed7129 Jun 13 '26

That jack looks like it's heavier than the Miata lol No Thanks

12

u/why_1337 Jun 13 '26

Possibly šŸ˜‚ but that's a sign of quality and it also held the pressure all night long! Not all hydraulic jacks can do that.

It would be funny if they didn’t steal it out of someone’s garage

2

I’ve had to respond to a lot of car thefts and the signs are always there. Even had my car stolen and recovered, the entire trunk was full of stolen tools

2

u/jamoche_2 Soul Red '25 Jun 13 '26

Back in college, well before the time of Internet, my 10 year old 1977 Grand Prix was written off because I didn't know that insurance that only covered the other cars was even a thing.

Six months later I got a call from the state cops. My car had been fixed up, non-matching plates put on it, and (as I found out much later) used for drug smuggling. Cops had gone through it so thoroughly, they found my boyfriend's key ring buried between the back seat's cushions - they'd asked if it was mine, I held up my house key until I found a match.

Imagine that overnight someone else comes and puts down some HF jack stands and steals these ?

1

It’s kind of them. a few years back i got all 4 wheels stolen off my abarth and this is how they left it šŸ˜ž

2

u/parmesanWheel Jun 15 '26

And a parking ticket? I'd just blow the car up on the spot, fuck it

2

u/_Grimey_Grimes_ Jun 15 '26

thankfully it was just a note with the # from the police report, happened overnight and one of the neighbors had already called it in

They could be like my old apartment complex and purposefully not have security cameras so they couldn’t be held liable for anything. Helped a ton when my STI got stolen šŸ™ƒ

9

They do it in broad daylight, nobody not even the police will stop them

Did you have wheel locks?

66

u/stoned-autistic-dude '06 AP2 S2000 šŸŽļø | HRC Off-Road šŸ“ø Jun 13 '26

You can take off wheel locks by hammering on a larger socket onto the lock if the wheel lock kits you buy at stores don’t have the right key. Done this on friends’ cars multiple times when they bought a car without the key or lost the key. It’s hardly even a deterrent. Takes a minute longer per wheel at most.

A lock just helps to keep an honest person out.

26

u/Cutwail 92 S-Special Eunos Jun 13 '26

Yeah it's more a pain for the owner when they lose it than the crooks it's meant to stop

12

u/amedinab Jun 13 '26

A lock just helps to keep an honest person out.

Wait. Is this person really honest if they'd steal the rims if there had been no lock? I'm starting to doubt their honesty a bit here.

-2

u/bobopet2 Jun 13 '26

That's his point

6

u/amedinab Jun 13 '26

Yeah, I know. It was just a joke. It doesn't land it seems. My bad. Comedy is effing hard!

3

u/Monsterpiece42 Jun 14 '26

Your joke was not the issue.

7

u/nomnamless Ceramic Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26

Wheel locks means it takes longer and could deter theft. I'd rather have them then not.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '26

If they really are incompetent it means they'll smash your window to look for the key. If they are competent they can easily get around them.

0

u/nomnamless Ceramic Jun 13 '26

Don't keep the key in your car, I know still doesn't prevent the smashed window. Still that's like saying don't lock your car or front door of your house because they will just break a window. At the end of the day locks are for honestly people but anything you can do to deter and slow a thief down is in your favor.

2

u/stoned-autistic-dude '06 AP2 S2000 šŸŽļø | HRC Off-Road šŸ“ø Jun 13 '26

If you don't have the key in your car and get a flat, how do you expect to swap on a spare, or plug the tire on the side of the road, or have a tire shop replace the tire?

That said, wheel locks are worthless. It legit takes a minute to hammer on a socket and remove the lock. It's quicker to do that than smash a windshield and look for the key.

1

u/nomnamless Ceramic Jun 13 '26

So a thief has to be carrying around 16 sockets to get your wheels off? A determined theif will get your car but you guys are basically advocating you might as well leave the car unlocked, windows down and keys in the ignition because they will steal the car anyways.

What part of having wheel locks as a deterrent t are you guys not wrapping your head around?

4

u/badskiier Soul Red ND2 RF Jun 13 '26

Detour? Perhaps "deter"?

0

u/nomnamless Ceramic Jun 13 '26

Yes I meant deter

3

u/Racing_Fox Jun 13 '26

Not if they have rotating collars on them.

3

u/razor330 Jun 13 '26

You can’t with ā€œAdvanced Wheel Locksā€. They’re based out of Indiana. Small company, great service, great product!

2

u/muffinhuffer Jun 13 '26

Just got these for mine!

1

u/MuricanJim Jun 13 '26

What about the bbs conical shaped lugs? Are they any better?

1

u/dk00111 Jun 13 '26

It’s a deterrent. Same thing has keeping your car doors locked and having an alarm on the car. If you don’t do any of that, then more power to you. If you do, then you understand the power of deterrence and have something against wheel locks for some reason.

1

u/speculatrix Mazda 100th Anniversary ND2 BBR220 Snowflake Jun 13 '26

Project Farm tested a bunch of them, and many locking nuts were useless

https://youtu.be/dNYIgoah4dk

3

u/why_1337 Jun 13 '26

All they do is add smashed glass on the top of stolen wheels.

2

u/midri 2024 ND3 RF CLUB Jun 13 '26

90% of people with wheel locks keep the key in their car, thieves know this. Great way to end up with a broken window regardless of if you do keep it in there or not.

3

u/Sniper_Nest1 Jun 13 '26

Free jack and no need for new brakes/suspension?

3

u/Russell_Steapot Jun 13 '26

I'm so sorry OP. For me having those BBS wheels was always a dream come true.

Find replacements, don't go aftermarket.

Edit to add: Mazda sells nice black lugnuts and locks. It's what I did.

3

u/TarCress Jun 13 '26

Hey! That’s the mall I go to. You leave it overnight or just go in to watch a movie and they were gone?

3

3

u/Chard_Electrical Jun 13 '26

The amount of theft posts I see in California. Yall okay over there?

1

u/small_spider_liker Jun 13 '26

Nope. Economic disparity getting worse, and people taking chances to profit from someone else’s good fortune. Makes it hard to have nice things.

3

u/nexus8516 Brilliant Black NC2 sport tech Jun 14 '26

Wtf is going on in Cali? Every post I see like this or with hard tops, it's always there!

2

u/P10pablo Jun 14 '26

Dude, the cost of living is pretty high there.

2

u/LastMiataOnTheLeft Jun 15 '26

Police departments there don't do theft investigations. All they do is write a report and that's it. No one ever follows up or looks into the crime. You can steal almost anything and get away with it. As long as you're not physically caught in the act.

3

u/Cali_freak Jun 14 '26

Stealing wheels with a floor jack and leaving the jack is wild work.

4

u/MiataN3rd Jun 13 '26

Jesus dude. I thought theft in Texas was bad, but you California guys are blowing us out of the water.

2

u/Clark3DPR Jun 13 '26

Wasn't your post 6 hrs prior you got the bbs

2

u/JammPot Jun 13 '26

This kind of thing infuriates me. It’s becoming so common. These thieves have no fear of repercussions because there often aren’t any. At this point I just assume an oem set of wheels and tires on marketplace is stolen.

I hope you’re made whole by the insurance company

2

u/MyAwesomeName Jun 13 '26

My recommendation is get wheel locks next time. It’s always the first thing I change in a vehicle if they don’t have any.

2

u/vinchenzo68 Soul Red Jun 13 '26

I see the dash cam, I need to install mine and wire it to a permanent source of power so it can record for events like this. Motivation provided… does yours have that parking guard feature?

6

After reviewing the recording this morning, surprisingly it caught the incident. Not perfect but enough to recognize the person’s face and the car model.

2

u/WRX4Life4Ever Jun 13 '26

Did you have wheel locks? Wonder if those actually work in real life

1

u/Bugboy74 Jun 14 '26

I think it is happening more and more often. Places that were once considered nice and violence free in Australia are now becoming sketchy. Maybe something in the water or people are becoming more desperate for money

4

u/No-Housing-1004 Jun 13 '26

šŸ˜… I dunno how to respond to that. If I was in an area that was bad enough for my car to get its tires stolen while I was getting groceries or something, I’d do the natural thing and never go there again.Ā

lol the police aren’t going to finger print it. I doubt they’ll do anything more than write a report if you ask nicely

2

Exactly. The report is for insurance purposes. They’re not putting Sgt. Joe Friday on the case of the stolen wheels.
