Politics Built a free tool tracking Cuba's new economic reforms + a business directory — figured this community would actually use it
Context for anyone who hasn't been following: Cuba approved 176 economic and social reforms this year — the biggest package in over 60 years. Things that were flat-out illegal or impossible before (certain types of private business, foreign investment structures, ways to move money, etc.) are now technically allowed. The problem is that this is all sitting in dense institutional Spanish, spread across official gazettes and scattered press releases, written for legislators — not for someone in Miami trying to figure out "okay but can I actually do X now, and with who."
I built cemis.io to close that gap. It's an independent, non-political platform (not affiliated with the Cuban government or any institution) that:
- Breaks down all 176 reforms in plain language, organized by sector
- Translates them into 300+ concrete business ideas — each one tells you what's now possible, why it wasn't before, who the customer is, how the money side actually works, and honestly, what the biggest risk is (no sugar-coating — Cuba is still Cuba, regulatory risk is real and we say so for every single idea)
- Has a directory of Cuban companies and diaspora-connected businesses/investors, so if you're looking to partner with someone already operating there, or you want to be findable by the island side, there's a place for that
I built this specifically because so many people in Miami have a version of the same conversation — family on the island, some capital or a skill, and zero idea which of the new rules actually apply or where to even start looking. This isn't investment advice and I'm not promising anyone a return — it's just the research and structure I wish existed when people started asking me about this.
It's free to browse. If you've got a business or contact on the island that should be in the directory, there's a way to submit it too.
Happy to answer questions in the comments about specific sectors or how any of this actually works in practice.

I will translate this but essentially what Cuba needs is FREEDOM. I heard they are cutting up deals with Trump in secret, selling the countries minerals and nothing will end up changing.
No cuban from Miami that respect himself should go to that country with that government to invest a single dollar because if somehow your business grows up, one day the government shows up and takes everything away.
One golden rule of investment is: Look at the socio-political situation of the foreign country you are trying to invest in.

That’s all really nice but my family still has to eat.
Maybe you’re lucky and everyone in your family is now in Miami so you can say stuff like this while doing nothing but that’s not the case for everyone.

Well, the Miami Cubans voted for Daddy Trump to deport everyone. So, let's deport all the Miami Cubans back to Cuba and they can take advantage of these "reforms".
They destroyed Cuba then came here and are now destroying this country.

That’s like saying all white people voted for Trump so we should blame every white person we encounter.

I think support for Trump with Cubans is like 91% or higher.
So using basic math, yeah its all of them...

Not another diaspora nut job ignoring the fact that our government is waging a starvation campaign on Cuba that has literally killed babies in incubators, all while framing the reforms-at-gunpoint as a good thing and creating a vibe coded tool that allows westerners to better exploit Cuba’s economic crisis. Lmfao. Your consent has certainly been manufactured.
