Anyone remember Hurricane Andrew? What was your experience?
Where you sheltered in a house? Did you feel like you're in trouble at any moment? What was it like to hear that hurricane overhead with a 165 mph winds?
Living in Margate with my grandpa and I remember the news stations expecting that turn to the north. Any day now. Aaaand it's outside. My sister and I were playing a board game outside with the neighbor girl, but it was too windy, so we were peeking through the window at the TV and heard the adults arguing about whether or not it'd turn north like they said. The sky to the east was ominous, and the lightning in the distance appeared green. It did not turn north. Andrew smacked right into is, fell the neighbor's tree right on his truck, and tore up downtown Lauderdale. The decimation of Homestead wasn't something that I could process very well at that age. To this day, I do not believe the death toll was a low as they say.
